If the Chinese government really thinks it can blackmail LaLiga and destroy Mbappé’s career, here’s a suggestion: At the start of every LaLiga match, have every player stand and chant: “Mao was a dictator! China is a totalitarian state!” Let the message echo across every stadium in Spain and around the world. You will see meltdowns of the paper tiger!

🚨 🎙️ Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts To Kylian Mbappe and Chinese Political Issue concerning Mao Zedong: 🗣️“Listen, Kylian has every right to laugh at memes made about him. People have been calling him ‘dictator’ for years and making all kinds of jokes. When he saw that one with Mao Zedong’s face, he laughed because he thought it was just another meme about him. That’s normal. He’s a human being and a great guy. It wasn’t Mbappé who created those memes. The Chinese are trying to create a problem where there is none. Yes, Mao Zedong did a lot of damage and caused the deaths of millions of people, but your anger should not be on Mbappé for laughing at a joke. The world does not revolve around China. Not everything has to become an international crisis because someone laughed at a meme. Let the man live.” #MaoZedong #china

Former TX Chief Justice and long Republican Thomas Phillips explains why he’s breaking party lines to back Democrat James Talarico for U.S. Senate over Ken Paxton, calling Talarico a candidate “who wants to be representative of all Texans.”

On September 21, 2001, while smoke was still rising from the rubble of the World Trade Center in New York, the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk prepared to sail out of Yokosuka, Japan, into war. Every sailor on board knew the danger they faced before even reaching the open ocean. Why was leaving Tokyo Bay the most dangerous moment of the voyage? Because to reach the Pacific, the giant carrier had to squeeze through the narrow Uraga Channel, a crowded waterway packed with hundreds of small civilian boats where a single suicide vessel loaded with explosives could strike at point-blank range. As the Kitty Hawk slipped her moorings that morning, the American crew looked out from the flight deck in stunned silence. Gray destroyers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and white patrol boats of the Japan Coast Guard had formed a tight steel wall directly along both sides of the American carrier. The Japanese captains positioned their own hulls between the USS Kitty Hawk and all oncoming boat traffic. If a terrorist boat tried to ram the American carrier, it would have to hit a Japanese ship first. Then the American sailors looked at the rocky cliffs of Yokosuka and Kannonzaki Lighthouse. Thousands of Japanese citizens, base workers, and families were standing shoulder to shoulder along the shore, waving American flags and holding up hand-painted banners that read "We Are With You." In her hour of deepest grief, America did not sail out of Japan alone. Japan sailed as her shield.

Television commentators in Tokyo spent years complaining about American Osprey aircraft flying over Japan. On November 29, 2023, the fishermen of Yakushima Island showed what real Japanese people actually do when an American falls into the sea. At 2:40 PM, a U.S. Air Force CV-22B Osprey carrying eight American airmen suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure and crashed into the rough winter waters half a mile off Yakushima. Why did U.S. military rescue helicopters not reach the water first? Because the nearest American air bases were hundreds of miles away, and the sea around Yakushima is filled with jagged volcanic reefs and heavy swells. The fishermen of Yakushima did not wait for a government order. The moment they saw black smoke on the water, dozens of local Japanese fishermen cut their nets, turned their small white wooden and fiberglass trawlers straight into the churning gray waves, and raced to the crash site within minutes. Alongside Japan Coast Guard divers and Self-Defense Force crews, those weathered fishermen stayed out on the freezing black water through the night, burning their deck lights until dawn so no American boy would be left alone in the dark. For seventy-two straight hours, town residents patrolled the rocky beaches in the rain with flashlights, and local divers braved strong underwater currents to bring every single American airman home to his family. When U.S. Air Force Special Operations commanders arrived, they bowed deeply to the fishermen with tears in their eyes. Politicians talk about alliances in air-conditioned rooms. Real allies cut their nets and steer straight into the storm.

How many Americans know that for eight straight years after September 11, Japanese warships stood in 120-degree heat in the Indian Ocean to pump 135 million gallons of free fuel into the U.S. Navy? After the twin towers fell in 2001, American carrier strike groups raced to the Arabian Sea to strike terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan. Why could American warships not simply pull into Middle Eastern ports to refuel? Because just one year earlier, suicide bombers in a small boat had blown a forty-foot hole in the destroyer USS Cole in Yemen. Entering port meant risking ambush and losing days off the front line. Within weeks of 9/11, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force dispatched its fleet oilers, including JS Towada, JS Tokiwa, and JS Mashu, ten thousand miles from home. Sailing side by side with U.S. destroyers and cruisers at twelve knots across heavy ocean swells, Japanese sailors shot steel cables across the water and winched thick rubber fuel hoses into American tanks without spilling a single drop. From December 2001 to January 2010, Japanese crews completed 939 underway refueling operations. They delivered 510,000 kiloliters, roughly 135 million gallons of fuel, plus 11,000 tons of fresh water, entirely paid for by the Japanese taxpayer. On the final day of the mission in January 2010, American sailors lined the rails of their warship in the blazing sun, took off their caps, and saluted the Japanese crew as the hoses were uncoupled for the last time. True loyalty does not ask for a camera. It holds the line for eight years in the sun.
