Our thoughts are with Minnesotans, who lost a true champion for families in Rep. Melissa Hortman. A message from our founder:
I am deeply disturbed and saddened by the political violence in Minnesota Saturday. My heart goes out to the families of State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and I’m praying for the full recovery of State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Attacks on public servants are not just personal tragedies—they’re also an assault on democracy itself. We must stand together to condemn violence and commit ourselves to a world where people can serve their communities without fear.
Despite a fundraising slump affecting new fund managers, @SophiePurdom closed an inaugural $54M fund for @planeteercap, enabling her to invest “capital for the age of consequences.” 🌎 We’re proud to support her efforts! pvtl.ventures/43C6tZ7

As a child, Maggie Lena Walker helped with the small laundry business that her mother, a formerly enslaved woman, started to support the family. When she returned clean laundry to customers, Walker saw the stark economic and social disparities between Black families like hers and the white families whose clothes they washed.
She also led the way in protesting injustice. While Jim Crow laws barred many Black people from voting, Walker knew they could make their voices heard another way: through how they spent their money. Walker led a boycott of the city’s segregated trolleys, denying the trolley company Black riders’ fares and declaring, “Our self-respect demands that we walk.” The company closed less than a year later, but Walker’s legacy endures.
