Horrific plastic litter in the plankton. Smaller than a fish scale or a copepod, these tiny pieces of plastic are less than 1 mm long and show our pollution of the very base of the marine food chain. @zeiss_micro

So you buy bottled water and it’s laced with microplastics then the bottle goes into the river and breaks down into microplastics. Or you could just save your money and drink tap water ? #riveroftrash – at Hounslow, London

Brits lead the World. (Telegraph) A British river ( the River Tame at Denton) has the worst microplastic pollution in the world, researchers have found, with levels even greater than hugely built-up areas such as in South Korea and Hong Kong.

Sadly the pollution that's made the Lea Britain's dirtiest river isn't new.
This photo is from 2013, in the Olympic Park.
Rain washed a toxic mix off industrial estates and roads. The grey tide flowed down the Lea killing 1000s of fish. The boom stopped them entering the park.
