Average NBA catch-and-shoot 3: 36%. Off a strike-zone pass: 42%. Off a bad pass: 29%. Your passer decides your shooter's percentage. Coach the pass.

If we can add Coach intend on player movement while tracking this, we will get better evaluation on defensive execution ability.
Animating a team's defensive shape as a convex hull using SkillCorner's Spanish Liga ACB open tracking data. kudos to @SkillCorner for making this public. it's a great opportunity for people to get hands-on experience with tracking data!

FYI.
basketball AI (95% local AI + 5% GPT-6 Astra) - detect ball and players - track players - re-identify players across plays - OCR player numbers - recognize player in possession - detect court keypoints - map player positions and trajectories Astra is powerful, but expensive tool. use it when it actually makes a difference. ↓ deep dive

It's not true. Hawks on/off net rating from 2026-02-24 (Since Kuminga join) Kuminga is T5th with Jalen Johnson as 12.2 among 7th playing time. While Hawks this span run(18w-5L) , Kuminga was part of success , but not a best player.
Jonathan Kuminga's agent Aaron Turner on Kuminga's time with the Hawks last season: "He was their best player from the moment he showed up in terms of winning impact. He had the best on/off net rating … These are facts. These aren't opinions."

For info, this is playoff on/off. Again, Kuminga was not their best player even by on/off.

Good info. Most valuable pass is attacking and Attacking passes occur when the ball is passed to players attacking the hoop via cuts, rolls, or in transition per their definition.
Which types of passes lead to the most shots?

Kuminga, Can a failure lead to role scaling down and revealing the true value case like Aaron Gordon and Wiggins? Kuminga wanted scoring wing than supporting cast type PF. And now, he stands at a crossroads of reawakening as PF.
Kerr wanted to Kuminga as Aaron Gordon style. But this is Why Draft is tough to everyone. Godron/Wiggins clearly failed as a 1st option, and re-evaluated pros and cons in a new environment and succeeded,"In another team." The tricky part is that you have to fail to reawaken.

His best tool is Cutting and some perimeter defense + some watchable pullup midrange. He developed some Dreb and set screen in Hawks. But still weak at playmake / catch 3 / team defense awarness. So let's see what is coming.

The NBA darkage of TS% was 1997~2004 span. The only 7 seasons (even in a row) under 52.5 TS% since 3pt allowed (since 1979). And as we all know, the league has taken several changes to reform iso-heavy, physical, and slow-paced basketball. And Jerry Colangelo was unsung hero

Zone defense allowing, along with Defensive 3 sec, Hand check ban are all important. but I think Jerry's 8sec (he wanted it to 7sec) was really big factor of change trends.

This is a Motor league. And Jarace Walker is a big-wing-sized player who is unusually vulnerable to physical contact and bumping. I think it's coming from his footwork. He has a uniquely irregular foot contact with the ground and shows clumsy power transfer.
A player’s ability to positively impact the 4 Factors becomes more consequential the less time they spend on the ball. Jarace Walker was the only player in the league last year with a below average impact on his teams’ 4F baseline across both ends.

It was his old habits about moving his body. so need to fix it for maxmize his postiive tools (Catch 3, passing etc) xitter.cf/polarfall/status/16724…
My 1st impression on Jarace Walker movement style. -His traction onto floor with his feet is unstable. -Always focus too much on the toes while moving. -That made him unstable against contact esp. So got pushed back to ease often and seems lowerbody shaking.

The opposite case is Nembhard. who has extreme strenth on shifting body balance on both ends despite of light weight/size. xitter.cf/polarfall/status/19931…
In Pacers, there are two polarized skillset player in Weight-Shift aspect. -Good : Nembhard , who has great knack of bumping attack to defender hip-turn moment + Pull the Chair abiliy as defender. -Bad : Jarace walker. Who has worst at bumping at both ends. (footwork issue)
