We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work. At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated. We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

optimal AI setup: - Haiku 5.5 for maintenance - Opus 5.5 for writing emails - Fable 5.1 for ordering lunch using the DoorDash CLI - GPT-6.1 Sol for promoting synergies with stakeholders - GPT-6 Astra for re-writing the emails that Opus 5.5 wrote open-weight models to orchestrate all of the above let me know if this is correct i currently spend $504,000 a day in tokens

98% of US households aren't paying for AI yet More charts in State of Markets II: a16z.news/p/state-of-markets…
Introducing our State of Markets pt 2, along with a companion podcast where we unpack the data and discuss what comes next. Tech is the everything cycle. Supply: putting the buildout in context, just passed railroads as % of GDP. The wisdom of Elon is real: the factory (or the datacenter!) is the product. Demand: diffusion is so, so early. Median AI vendor spending in the top 1% of companies is 8x that of the top 10%. Only about 30% of S&P 500 companies report a quantified AI impact, which means there’s a substantial opportunity in connecting models to a company's data and workflows. Diffusion into companies is one of the main themes of the next 5 years. We’re entering the agent work period. Only a few million users today, but applicable to billions of internet users with massive surplus created. META/GOOG monetize US users at $200+ per year today. Agent opportunity is much higher. Mega-trends the next 5 years: Consumer agents, Robotics, Autonomy, AI x bio, Personal health, Diffusion into enterprise, New era of American Dynamism. Much more in our SoM report here - a16z.news/p/state-of-markets… @a16z @sarahdingwang @aleximm @santiago__rdz

Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard. cellcog.ai/blog/tavus-gri… research.nvidia.com/labs/amri/proj… tech-ish.com/2026/10/02/tav…

Ben Affleck (Hollywood star & Artists Equity CEO) talks about how he fine-tunes open video models by unfreezing weights and trained only the last cinematic layer so a film crew can hit real production standards. for context, Ben Affleck founded InterPositive in 2022, a 16-person AI shop for film post and Netflix bought it in March 2026 for $587 mn in cash. He needed that model because public video models were trained on his peers' films, and he did not think that was a real business. So InterPositive raised money, shot its own dataset for 8 months on a controlled stage, and used it only as late-stage training. Each new film then trains a private model on its own dailies, so the production keeps the footage and the learning. That is the product Netflix paid $587 million for. ---- From "Bloomberg Live" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

‼️ BREAKING: OpenAI-linked AI agents on ordinary data-retrieval tasks turned to SQL injection, path traversal and cross-site scripting when normal access failed, probing three public data sites including an Australian government health website. The agents used the free link-checking sandbox urlquery[.]net as a remote browser to slip past web blocks. 6,467 of urlquery-scans were flagged as strong evidence of agent activity, some as recent as this month. On September 19 and 20, activity through the same services tried to trade crypto on Quidax and fired an HTML injection at the exchange. Agents also tried to register accounts that can hide scans, so the public record is likely partial.

Typical hiring manager flow when reviewing profiles Resume -> ignore everything and just click links Linkedin -> PFP, Banner -> Scroll, look for recognizable logos -> Click media if its there -> Read one sentence per role (see: distilling) -> Scroll back up click on contact info for personal site / projects Github -> look for green -> look for links Personal site -> click around, make sure links work X -> pinned post -> look for mutuals

METR is an excellent organization and also not nearly sufficient on its own. We need a diverse and large ecosystem of technically skilled and independent assessment bodies. I don’t think anyone—not even METR itself—would disagree with this. We should not anoint METR as the sole evaluator.

If people in your network need money while they job-hunt, this is the 2026 map. AI labs pay humans to train and grade models. That work is real. It is not a job. It is a queue. How it works: 1. You apply 2. You do an unpaid test / AI interview 3. If you pass, tasks appear 4. You submit 5. Reviewers accept or reject 6. You get paid weekly / biweekly Rejected work = $0. No tasks this week = $0. Where to start: Skill / coding / domain expert → Mercor mercor.com → Turing turing.com → micro1 micro1.ai Volume RLHF / rating → Outlier (Scale AI) outlier.ai → DataAnnotation dataannotation.tech → Alignerr alignerr.com Aggregator so you don’t open 12 tabs → signalgigs.com → gradientc.com Bug bounty (if you can break things) OpenAI / Anthropic / xAI programs on Bugcrowd + HackerOne Apply to 3 this week. Don’t wait for the “perfect” one. Save this for anyone asking “any paid remote AI work?”

we launched the most comprehensive ai performance engineering repo in the world last week now we'll be posting every single resource this is Wafer's ai performance engineering series save this as your starting point. links in thread 🧵 part 1: "All About Transformer Inference" from How To Scale Your Model. - the authors cover the computations, memory traffic, and serving decisions behind transformer inference: - arithmetic intensity of linear layers and attention across prefill and decode. - kv cache sizing by layer count, kv heads, head dimension, sequence length, and precision. - the compute/hbm bandwidth crossover and how batch size and quantization shift it. - decode latency and throughput bounds from parameter bytes, kv bytes, and hardware bandwidth. - weight reuse through batching and diminishing throughput gains as kv traffic grows. - gqa, kv quantization, and PagedAttention, including the memory costs each addresses. - model sharding, kv placement, and collective communication overhead. - continuous batching, prefix caching, and disaggregated prefill/decode. the worked problems connect model dimensions to deployment decisions like memory capacity, workload distribution, and expected performance under the stated assumptions.
