wtf this guy just had Claude Sonnet 5 perform brain surgery on a living mouse the goal was to treat the mouse's epilepsy so it would stop having so many seizures. here's what Claude did: > it looked at 19 possible treatments and picked one that boosts the brain's natural calming chemical > it chose where to inject it based on where these seizures are thought to start > it worked out the exact injection point by averaging three research papers > it lowered the needle 4.3 millimeters into the mouse's brain > it injected a 20,000th of a teaspoon of the treatment over five minutes > it checked the live camera 32 times to watch for things like bleeding and the mouse woke up and recovered well! interestingly, Opus 5.5 and Opus 5 both refused the task because it involved real biology so Sonnet 5 got the job. and as far as the researcher knows it's the first time an AI has picked a treatment and then injected it into the brain of a living mammal.
Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse. We gave it 19 gene therapy vectors in a spreadsheet, a mouse model of epilepsy, access to a motorize surgery rig with cameras and one goal: reduce seizures. It picked the drug. It picked the brain region. It derived the coordinates from three papers. Then it drove the stereotaxic arms into the brain and injected 250 nanolitres while watching the entry site through the rig camera for bleeding. A licensed vet gated every irreversible step and held a physical kill switch to stop the AI agent. Thread on what it decided, what it saw, and the moment it refused to let me override it. [Writing this on the spot out of excitement, but I've been 18hrs in front of my laptop coding and coordinating this, so keeping it brief and descriptive, more cohesive thoughts on this soon...]

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

What I like about Jev: for years, large generalist models sucked almost all the oxygen out of AI. But there are huge opportunities in much more specialized and customized models, built for specific tasks and languages and as a result, orders of magnitude cheaper, faster and more optimized. There are 3 million of them publicly available on @huggingface. Let's build a much more diverse AI ecosystem!

Sharing confidential information with AIs is a norm these days! We can do better. Our latest encoder models find and strip 40 types of PII across 16 languages, all in one simultaneous pass for a secure information sharing with AIs. LFM2.5-Encoders identify all entities in the text at once. You can choose the entities yourself. They run inside your pipeline, so your private data never leaves your environment. No generation, nothing to parse.

Today, we’re excited to open-source TwiL-LM3, the first formal reasoning model from the webAI Intelligence Lab. At just 3 billion parameters, TwiL-LM3 outperforms OpenAI’s GPT-OSS-120B on 4 of 5 formal reasoning benchmarks while running efficiently on consumer hardware. That’s 40× fewer parameters, 2.6× faster inference, and state-of-the-art performance in the reasoning tasks that power reliable tool calling, code generation, structured outputs, and AI agents. TwiL-LM3 was trained using webAI’s proprietary reasoning pipeline on webAI-owned, verified datasets—not scraped internet data. We believe better reasoning comes from better training pipelines and higher-quality data, not simply larger models. Our approach demonstrates that efficient models can rival—and in many cases surpass—models dozens of times their size. Designed for the edge, TwiL-LM3 runs on hardware people already own—from a Raspberry Pi to an iPhone—bringing advanced reasoning to millions of devices without relying on the cloud. This is our first open-source release from the webAI Intelligence Lab, and it’s only the beginning. Proudly built in Austin, Texas. Article: webai.com/blog/webai-release…

Today we are introducing Dyna-2, a world-action model pre-trained on one million hours of human video. At this scale, for the first time, we discovered several new scaling laws: • world-action models exhibit scaling law on human data across four orders of magnitude, from 1000 to 1,000,000 hours, • this human data scaling law implied a scaling law on never seen robot data, • both data and objective matter; world modeling and scaling on video data are essential for cross-embodiment scaling transfer to emerge 🧵

Minimax H3 is the first *open* video model I've seen that outperforms HunyuanVideo 1.5 - which is actually an impressive accomplishment for @TencentHunyuan to have held that throne for so long. For a while now I've been sad that the image/video frontier seemed to be getting much more closed than the text LLM frontier. H3 is a very strong step back in the open direction. This was generated in ~30 min on my AMD laptop: firefly.social/post/x/208410…
