Does knowing that distractions are coming change how we use working memory?
In two EEG experiments, anticipating interference did not change how strongly previously learned information was reactivated in working memory.

The foundational claim that newborns visually prefer upright over inverted face-like configurations is a myth, as the original data actually showed no such preference. This review reveals that a false narrative constructed in subsequent literature was projected back onto the source, overturning the primary evidence for innate face knowledge in infant psychology.

New paper out in @NeuroCellPress! Using Multi-Site Neuropixels recordings in NHPs, we show that automatic behaviors are interrupted by the OFC "jamming" rather than "suppressing" the striatum!

The rich get richer in visual processing: latest study with Ivan Tomic shows that we allocate resources preferentially to stimuli that we feel confident in estimating, which makes us better at estimating them...even if the initial confidence was misplaced doi.org/10.1038/s41562-026-0…

Do the contents of visual working memory deteriorate more quickly when more items are being remembered? Seems a straightforward question but we had to bring together 13 studies and >120,000 trials to get definitive answers... doi.org/10.1037/rev0000645

When you focus on one item in working memory, beta rhythms may help “park” the other in a protected, set-aside state.

Really chuffed about this one. It's impt for our efforts to understand neural and computational bases of controlling the contents of WM. It also highlights a control-related signal in the beta band that is NOT "inhibitory" in the way often assumed doi.org/10.1523/JNEUROSCI.04…
