Spent the day at Shenzhen RoboTech 2026. Biggest takeaway: the US and China are building completely different layers of robotics. 1/ In the US, everyone's on data collection, world models, sim, teleop software. In Shenzhen, it's all hardware: actuators, motors, sensors, components. 2/ Data collection hardware was everywhere: gloves, head rigs, camera arrays. But I didn't meet anyone actually collecting the data. They build the rigs, others use them. 3/ Lots of humanoid companies, but the serious ones are industrial. The robot boxing drew the biggest crowd and was honestly the least impressive thing there. 4/ Ask any booth "can you make this?" and the answer is always "Give me the CAD, we'll get it done." Lead times run 3 weeks to 3 months. 5/ Small sample runs are welcome, and so are factory visits. Most companies are domestic for now, and nearly all want overseas customers. 6/ Go-to-market couldn't be more different. US hardware sells through LinkedIn, X and events. China sells through Amazon China, Taobao and WeChat. If you're building robots in the US, the hardware layer you need is sitting here, looking for customers.

The most common sentence I heard at Shenzhen RoboTech: "Give me the CAD, we'll get it done." Custom actuator? 3 weeks to 3 months. Small sample run? Yes. Come see the factory? Please do. In the US, getting a hardware supplier to reply can take weeks of emails. Here, the engineers walk you to the line.

DID YOU KNOW?? Multi-millionaire NBA superfan James Goldstein, who attends over 100 courtside NBA games a year in lavish, custom "cowboy couture" outfits, pledged his iconic, $40 million John Lautner-designed residence (featured in The Big Lebowski) to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) so that his legendary home, its artwork, and his massive personal wardrobe will be preserved as a public museum after his death. Goldstein built his fortune through real estate investments in Los Angeles, allowing him to spend millions pursuing his three main obsessions: professional basketball, high-end fashion, and architectural design. He began keeping game statistics for the Milwaukee Hawks as a 15-year-old in the 1950s and went on to attend over 5,000 NBA games courtside across six decades, earning praise from former NBA Commissioner David Stern as the sport's single greatest fan. In 1972, Goldstein purchased the Sheats-Goldstein Residence in Beverly Hills, designed by mid-century modern master John Lautner. Over the next several decades, he collaborated with Lautner to overhaul the futuristic concrete-and-glass hillside compound, adding a private nightclub, an infinity tennis court, and an original James Turrell light installation. The iconic house became an architectural legend and a pop-culture landmark, featuring in films like The Big Lebowski and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. WWalk with me 👇🏾👇🏾 The Extraordinary Life of James Goldstein: How a Midwestern sports enthusiast built a unique legacy across sports, design, and style: 1. Early Courtside Fascination 1950s At age 15, Goldstein works as an official stat keeper for the NBA's Milwaukee Hawks, sparking a lifelong devotion to courtside basketball. 2. Acquiring the Sheats Residence 1972 Goldstein purchases the angular John Lautner house in Los Angeles, embarking on a multi-decade architectural enhancement project. 3. The Global NBA & Fashion Icon 1990s–Present He becomes a fixture at global fashion weeks and NBA playoff games, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on seats and custom luxury attire. 4. Pledging the Estate to LACMA 2016 Goldstein officially promises his $40 million residence, fashion archive, and art collection to LACMA to ensure public cultural preservation. More Surprising Facts About James Goldstein: A. Custom High-Fashion Wardrobe: Goldstein owns a massive, custom-built closet filled with thousands of high-fashion pieces, primarily custom leather jackets and python hats, frequently buying women's designer outerwear (such as Dior) because the tailored cuts fit his slender frame perfectly. B. No Favorite Team: Despite spending millions attending regular season and playoff games across North America, Goldstein claims he does not root for any single team; he simply loves the pure skill of the sport and cheers for whichever team plays better basketball. C. The "Club James" Party Venue: On the grounds of his hillside residence, Goldstein built an subterranean private nightclub called "Club James," complete with sweeping skyline views of Los Angeles, which frequently hosts major post-Grammy Awards afterparties and Hollywood events. SUMMARILY! NBA superfan and fashion icon James Goldstein turned his real estate success into a legendary life of courtside basketball attendance, ending with the gift of his $40 million John Lautner estate to LACMA. Hopefully you've learnt something new today? The Medic Who Writes™🌚 Cheers 🥂🙂
The guy in the cowboy hat next to LeBron spends about $500,000 a year on courtside seats, and he pays for it with rent from retirees who can't take their homes and leave. His name is James Goldstein. He's been to more than 5,000 NBA games, and he owns trailer parks in Southern California. Here's the thing about trailer parks most people never think about. You own your home, but you rent the little patch of dirt it sits on. And "mobile" homes almost never move. The Supreme Court looked at this back in 1992 and noted that only about 1 in 100 ever gets moved once it's set down. Moving one can eat a huge chunk of what the house is even worth, and a lot of parks won't accept older homes anyway. So if the landlord raises your lot rent, you can pay it, or you can walk away from a house you own outright. That's basically the whole business model. It's why more than 100 cities and counties in California put rent control on mobile home parks, and it's why Goldstein has spent decades fighting them in court. In 2006 he bought Colony Cove, a park for seniors in Carson, for about $23 million, most of it borrowed. The next year he asked the city to let him raise rent $618 a month per lot. The city said no. He's sued Carson at least eight times since, including a $78 million claim a state judge threw out. A federal jury gave him $3.3 million in 2016, and an appeals court took it back two years later. In Palm Springs he tried something smarter. He moved to break his El Dorado park into individually owned lots, which can knock out local rent control and leave residents choosing between buying the ground under their own house or paying market rent. The city paid him $937,500 to settle, and the appeals ruling from that fight gave park owners all over California a legal path to do the same thing. It took a new state law in 2013 to let cities block those conversions when residents don't want them. To give him his due, Goldstein argues rent control is unfair to owners, and when it comes to apartments a lot of economists would back him up. Trailer parks are where that argument gets a lot harder to make, because leaving means hauling your house down the freeway. Now do the math on that 2007 raise. $618 a month comes out to about $7,400 a year per lot. The raise on roughly 67 lots would pay for an entire season of his courtside seats.

I agree. Companies with AI compute capacity and a community of video creators to help train it, could be the biggest winners. Exactly what we are building for at $RUM Group.

🚨 THE NEXT AI TRADE MAY BE HIDING IN PARKING LOTS. LT350 wants to transform parking canopies into distributed AI data centers using solar power, battery storage, and GPUs. But the bigger investment story may be the infrastructure behind AI: $NVDA — Compute $VRT — Cooling $ETN — Power management $PWR — Grid infrastructure $CEG — Electricity supply AI demand is only part of the equation. Power availability, deployment costs, and profitability could determine the winners. ⚠️ These are watchlist ideas, not guaranteed winners. Valuation and execution matter. For creators, their video data will be worth more than Ads. Creators will have better opportunities to monetize as robotics will heavily require it. Rumble is working on a plans to help creators tap into this, and it could change the game for creators who decide to participate.
Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

“Why are the ceilings so high? That empty space should be a second floor. Modern construction don’t need arches anymore. There are too many stair steps. There is no need to curve the staircase, it just wastes space. The bannister is so fancy, it is not needed. That money can be spent elsewhere. That staircase is too elaborate and will confuse people. They can’t tell what direction they are heading. The staircase are an impediment to differently-abled people and are not inclusive. The stairs must be replaced with elevators.” “The changes you need to make are simple. And then you will have the perfect building.” You can’t hate modernists and bureaucrats enough.
