Fomo’s @fomo success is worth paying attention to, but not because it invented some revolutionary new trading technology. Under the hood, it still relies on existing chains, DEXs and protocols. The real innovation is that most users barely notice any of them. You open one app, see what people are buying, find an asset and trade it immediately. There’s no need to set up multiple wallets, buy gas tokens, choose a bridge or work out which DEX has the liquidity. That sounds simple, but simplicity is exactly what crypto has been missing. Most DEXs are built for users who already know what they want to buy. Fomo also controls the step before the trade: discovery. Its feed, trader profiles, alerts and leaderboards turn browsing into buying without forcing users to leave the app. That is probably why people are willing to pay a 0.5% fee for something an experienced onchain trader could do more cheaply elsewhere. Most ordinary users care more about convenience than saving a few basis points. Fomo once again proves that mainstream users are not waiting for another major technical breakthrough. They want crypto to stop feeling like crypto. They may not care which chain they are using, which DEX executes the trade or where the liquidity comes from. They just want to discover an asset and buy it immediately. The important part of Fomo isn’t that it built a better DEX. It made the DEX almost invisible. This is what wallet-native finance looks like as it starts moving closer to a Web2 user experience: blockchain underneath, a normal app on top.
