Francesco Farioli - An Analytical Thread
-Probably the most interested I’ve been in studying a coach for quite some time. A really unique interpretation of the game, often prioritising minimal variance over traditional ideas of control
-Out of possession, he shows a number of intelligent, adaptive mechanisms, constantly adjusting based on the opposition and available profiles
-Strong work on set pieces and a clear willingness to continuously evolve his ideas
This thread will break down how his teams function across all phases and how high Farioli’s ceiling could be.

The back up plan can’t seriously be Andrey and Ederson
Was there no contingency plan in place?
Honestly year on year, the fans of this club are let down - as well as the coach
Pull your finger out INEOS
🚨 Manchester United exploring deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea. No club talks yet - enquiries by multiple suitors to 22yo’s agents. #MUFC keen but will depend on price. #CFC would not block move if suits all parties @TheAthleticFC after @Will_Unwin nytimes.com/athletic/7423090…
We are not ranked 20th because the players can’t be arsed
Manchester United rank 20th in the Premier League for our Athleticism Score this season, with the squad profile split in two.
Their wingers and most of their full-backs score highly, but down the spine their athleticism drops sharply.
Athleticism Score compares each player’s physical output per 90 with others in the same position, on a 0 to 100 scale, so 50 is average for the role.
That squad makeup may shape how Carrick sets up. A slower centre-back pairing makes a high line risky, and a less mobile midfield makes sustained pressing harder.
It shows in the physical data. Total distance doesn’t predict results, but United’s intensity in the Premier League is low: they rank 18th for high-speed running distance, 16th for sprinting distance and 20th for average max speed.

I knew this would backfire
INEOS have completely misread this
Fucking idiots
🚨 Sources say it did NOT go unnoticed by the Manchester United front office that Michael Carrick received significant support from United fans during and after the defeat to Bournemouth. #MUFC [@RobDawsonESPN, @MarkOgden_]
It’s time to repost this
The good and bad of Julian Nagelsmann
Unfortunately, since this piece I’ve slightly leant towards the bad when assessing the Nagelsmann trade offs which are always consistent
This combined with the current PL landscape makes me very apprehensive about any potential appointment
There are lots of positives though
Julian Nagelsmann Thread 🧵
Been excited to write this one, and Nagelsmann has not disappointed.
With JN, there is little value in obsessing over formations. He tinkers too much, and has done throughout his career for shape alone to tell you much about the coach.
This thread will instead look at the constants and the recurring principles, the ideas that stay in place even when the structures change, and what Nagelsmann consistently wants from his teams.
This thread by by slightly disjointed, but that is the nature of Nagelsmann, please read it through to gain a true picture
Then I’ll assess the pros and cons of that approach.

Argument in the media section at the London Palladium for the #Ballondor as one reporter is told he's 'won the Ballon d'Or for being the biggest t**t'.
