Training standards affect your daily experience - and you have an opportunity to contribute
to the discussion.
The ACGME is accepting comments on proposed revisions to the Common Program
Requirements for residency.
Comment deadline: October 22, 2026.
These requirements provide a shared foundation for residency education. The proposed
revisions are still under review, and the comment process allows the community to offer
feedback before requirements are finalized.
How can you participate?
1 Read the proposed requirements.
2 Review the accompanying rationale and impact statement.
3 Identify specific sections you want to address.
4 Explain your perspective clearly and provide relevant examples.
5 Submit your feedback electronically through the designated ACGME form.
For example, useful feedback can identify how a proposed requirement might affect
learning, supervision, or the practical experience of trainees. Connect your comments to the
actual proposal so reviewers can understand your concern or recommendation.
As IMGs, residents, and educators, our experiences can add valuable perspectives to
conversations about training.
Share this opportunity with your colleagues and take time to review the proposal.

⏰ “80 hours” is a ceiling in the ACGME framework, not a prediction of what every resident works every week. When evaluating a program, ask how the actual schedule operates.
