People are spending 87 minutes a day with AI. Think about what that really means for businesses. Every question. Every problem. Every “what should I use?” is potentially a recommendation opportunity.🧵

If you sell anything people compare before they buy, there’s a big opportunity on Google right now. AI Overviews are showing up on the exact searches people make when they’re deciding what to buy. Let’s go through it. 🧵

Here’s an example from the study. For “mailchimp vs klaviyo,” Google’s AI answer used Klaviyo’s own guide to explain when to pick Klaviyo. For Mailchimp’s side, it used Zapier. Your website helps shape the answer. It’s just not the only voice.

One fair note. The study counted how often an AI answer appeared, not clicks or sales, and Semrush sells tracking tools. But even they say ranking first probably brings less traffic now. What you publish still shapes what the AI says.

So what do you do? Write a page for each competitor people compare you with. Show your pricing. Keep details current. Get reviews on the sites Google cites. Want me to check what Google says about your business? DM me “CHECK”.

It’s highest where people are closest to deciding. 96% of “best X for Y” searches. About 90% of review searches. Over 86% of “X vs Y” searches. Over 82% of “alternatives” searches. A year ago, review searches were at about 30%.

A new Semrush study tracked 400 buying searches for a year. In September 2025, Google’s AI Overview showed up on 46% of them. By August 2026, it was 88%. Nearly double in twelve months.

You can win a customer on Google and still lose them in ChatGPT. They find you, click, like your page. Then, right before paying, they ask a chatbot for a second opinion. A survey of 2,338 US adults shows how often it says no. 🧵

This isn’t only a big brand problem. Of people who use AI to research companies, 87% would at least occasionally ask a chatbot before hiring a local business. Hotel, shop, tour operator, salon: someone is asking, “Is this place legit?” right now.

Try this today: ask ChatGPT, “Is [your business] worth it? What are the downsides?” Then fix what it gets wrong: clear pricing, real reviews, “best for” and comparison pages. Not sure what it says about you? DM me “CHECK,” and I’ll run it with you.
