Great children. Beautiful grandchildren. Living in #YorkCentre. Perhaps I think too simply but Canada is just not the hellish place so many seem to portray.

Poor little Republicans, frightened of Canadian diplomacy. The US has declared an economic war on Canada and much of the rest of the world. And, to the US, it seems any response is election interference. What a moronic stance! And disappointed in the stupid Canadians who buy into the US show of victimhood.

I see your point. But I also have Orthodox Jewish women in my life who cover their hair and know Sikh woman who wear the turban. They do this voluntarily as part of their observance. I don't agree with it but it causes me no damage.

Reminds me of the recent Twilight Zone remake.

Unfortunately, I have little trouble believing that a Liberal minister approved the message. I worry that, in less time than we hope, there will not be a major political party in Canada that would not echo this message.

I never quite understood the controversy about the hijab. There are many religions that call for covering of the head or hair and there is no cost for respecing them, as long as they are not forced on women. If we are looking to draw a line, for me it is with face covering, such as the niqab. That runs counter to our culture and I would not have an issue with it being banned.

Stunning. The Palestinian Authority lied to the world, including Canada about holding elections. 90 year old Abbas will stay another year, are more beyond that until he dies in office and his son takes his place. I assume that our government will retract its recognition until the PA actually meets our stated requirements. Even one would be surprising.

I suppose it could be discussed as long as they receive no funding from Canada or Ontario, do not expect to stay in Canada after their studies and are told they are expelled and sent home the moment they are seen participating in any protest. Personally, I would prefer they study in universities in Arab countries but I don't suppose any of those would want students from Gaza.

Osgoode Hall's Law Union is calling for people to wear the keffiyeh (which is Iraqi) as a sign of "Palestinian identity." After all, what says "Palestinian identity" more than co-opting somebody else's history?

Of course politicians run for offices. If they win, they are lauded for their success. If they lose, their leaving is available to intimate the horrible crime of ambition. Just the way it is.

Not terrible. A solid 6.5.

I almost regret looking at the replies to @vgasparro's tweet. Vince has always been a relentless supporter and ally of the Jewish community. Yet the replies are full of idiots accusing him of betraying us. Good job trying to alienate our best friends.

That is a good question, Harold. Personally, I have heard almost nothing from the PLA since the last election. I wonder if they are doing anything.

So many people don't hate Sasha Calle as Supergirl. The loudmouthed YouTube idiots were the ones screaming that she should not play the role because she has a Latin background, is too dark and not a blond. They always need to find something to bitch about. Sasha was fine, playing an odd role in a bad movie.

I have been watching Star Trek since the 1970's (maybe late 60's but cannot remember). I have watched every episode of every series and every movie except Lower Decks. What have I rewatched? Television Series: Some of TOS. All of TNG once or twice. DS9 several times. My favourite series. Voyager, I have not rewatched. Enterprise once or twice. Discovery? I was enough of an effort to watch the first time. Picard? I watched the show but have yet had no real interest in rewatching. Lower Decks and Prodigy? Honestly, I watch a few episodes to give it a fair try. Just not my thing. SNW? I enjoy the show and may rewatch some of the episodes. Not crazy about this 4th season but enjoyed a few episodes. Starfleet Academy? Did not care for the YA attempt at Star Trek. Played them in the background while I was doing something at my desk. Movies: I have watched all of the movies at least once. Star Trek II and III I have watched and enjoyed several times. I have enjoyed Star Trek: First Contact several times. I enjoyed the 2009 reboot of Star Trek and have rewatched each of the "Kelvin Timeline" movies several times. Some of the series and movies were better than others. But, as I have said before, even bad Trek is better than no Trek. Except, perhaps, Discovery.

They weren't terrible and I watched every one. Still, I found them weaker than SG-1 in its first few seasons. To each their own.

No such mindset. What I suggest is that when additional programming is added, there may be a need to fund them with tax revenue. But it is rare to meet a politician who does not realize: 1. Tax freeze/cut is good politics. 2. Tax raise will always get loud complaints.

The other question that I have is whether, after freezing taxes in year one, any politician would have the courage to raise them in year two or three. I have trouble seeing that happen.

There is always going to be some level of waste and even fraud. And it is easy to rant about even a few thousand here and there. The question is whether there is sufficient waste and fraud to have a real impact on the budget. It has been my experience that those that scream about waste usually mean that "we should not be spending money on" this or that program. And they may be right. But such programs have been discussed, designed, voted on and implemented. Removing them will require a process, not just a review and some sort of edict. And it will take time.

Reviews take time. Audits, even more. Your suggestion is that taxes be frozen during this period. Also that any new spending means cutting old spending (which would be under review/audit.) I suppose I wonder whether those calling for this strategy have specific spending in mind that they will not share with us, hoping to have any blame placed on the review committee.

I suppose my question is why one must freeze taxes in order to do a line by line review. Would the more logical path be to do the review, determine the savings that can be made and then address taxes based on the findings? Or am I missing something?
