Floral Colors: The Science & Art of Flower Shades. Why do Flowers Have Different Colors? #sciart #flowers #scicomm #chemistry #science #education The color of flowers is determined by the presence of various pigments. Their major types include anthocyanins, carotenoids, and flavonols. Anthocyanins are the most common pigments that typically produce red, blue, and purple colors. Carotenoids give rise to yellow, orange, and red colors, while flavonols are common yellow and white pigments in flowers. The color of some flowers can vary depending on the environmental conditions (light, temperature, humidity, nutrients) and the pH of the soil or liquid inside a plant cell (cell sap). The combination of different pigments in flowers (and other parts of plants including fruits and berries) determines their unique colors. Some flowers often contain a mixture of pigments that can produce a wide range of colors and color gradients. Flowers may also feature darker colors at the center of the petals, which gradually fade toward the edges. Finally, flower pigmentation plays an important role in attracting pollinators and protecting the flowers from heat and solar radiation. An example of multicolored floral pattern is shown herein. Very sad for you all not to be able to represent you at @UEFA's Inaugural #Respect Forum this week. We are not currently working with UEFA on anything whatsoever - a huge backward step for colour blind fans, players, management & employees which we hope UEFA will rectify soon.

When Van Gogh started painting, he made the artworks on the left. Fewer than three years later, at the end of his life, he was making the works on the right. This is a thread about his journey through color space.
