Last night, I was able to enjoy a great evening of Lucha Libre in San Jose with some great friends, one being Dave Meltzer, the lead pro wrestling reporter in the world, and honestly one of the best historians this business has ever known, and also the person who currently “rates” pro wrestling matches with the five star system. I’ve known Dave since before I was even a legal adult, going back to 1992, literally reading the Wrestling Observer newsletter and digesting every word like a sponge.
During some of the darkest times of my life, it’s crazy how I memorized his PO Box in Campbell, CA, and a simple letter or postcard would lead to him making sure I had the Observer to read, and I’ll always be grateful to Dave for doing that for me.
Fast forward now to 2026, and it’s come full circle, to where Dave reaches out to me for Lucha Libre news (him and Luchablog/Cubs were the only two journalists to ask how all the 2022 Triplemania events went), and even advice when he went to Mexico City for the first time two months ago. So it was great to sit with him and his brother in law for the first time at a live show and share stories and laughs. He even did a video telling people to get their pets fixed or he’ll give them negative five stars!
my for you page keeps showing me posts of people debating top emo records, whether midwest emo is the best, etc. and @ghostofrightnow is lucky we're friends because i'm pretty sure this is entirely his fault
still thinking about the GCW Wargames match from last night. it was slogging along as usual and then once all ten people were in, someone flipped a switch and turned it into Event Horizon. the kind of match where someone agrees to agent it as a way to get their enemies killed
