Your vote means nothing today. It meant nothing yesterday and it will mean nothing tomorrow. The system is structured to preserve the power of existing institutions. The system ensures that power is never transferred to ordinary citizens. No matter which party wins, major corporations, billionaires, lobby groups, and entrenched bureaucracies continue to control the direction of travel, geopolitical and economical. Elections may well change the faces in government - local or national - but the puppet masters remain in the background. Twas ever thus. In my long-held view, voting functions more as a ritual that gives citizens the feeling of participation and the hope that it’ll be better next time. It won’t be. Democracy is an illusion.
