🎉Despite the bittersweet sentiment, today's vote is cause for celebration
11 years after Rana Plaza, the tragedy still shows what is at stake if businesses act recklessly.
Now, for the #CSDDD to be a game-changer, EU states & businesses must prove their commitment

BREAKING: @Europarl_EN approves #CSDDD 🎉
With final formal approval in @EUCouncil ahead, this is another crucial step. Here’s why the directive is such an important milestone despite previous concessions... 🧵1/ business-humanrights.org/en/…

Today, after years of work, countless hours of negotiations and political turmoil, the #CSDDD is finally ADOPTED! Exactly one year after the tragic collapse of Rana Plaza.
EU:n yritysvastuudirektiivi on viimein HYVÄKSYTTY!
👏This directive will foster fairer global value chains, and provide clarity for European companies, and facilitate European competitiveness.
We welcome the decision and urge swift confirmation by Member States.

Replying to @ECCJorg @Europarl_EN @_Zimmerfrau @pausoler98 @PhilippaNuttall @DaveKeating @Sanchelen @SilviEllena @Coulic @SabrinaDourlens @Silviawsh @Jonpackroff
With a bittersweet and ambivalent sentiment, today’s vote is undoubtedly cause for celebration.
The #CSDDD has game-changing potential, as it cements the principle that companies must not harm people & the planet when operating.

Never again.
11 years after the tragedy of the Rana Plaza collapse, we remember the lives lost and the lessons learned.
Today, the European @Europarl_EN votes on the #CSDDD, an EU directive reflecting on past mistakes to enforce corporate justice.

ALT : A standing vigil, with banners and candles. The performative ambiance will entail a quiet but ongoing sharing of sentiments by speeches, reading and recordings. Audience members will hold small placards saying "Due Diligence now". The ongoing audio will allow participants to come and go as demanded by Parliament activities, while still absorbing the sentiment of the moment. We will have a banner that has all of the names of the victims, and will read out testimonies of survivors, condolences sent in from across the world, and interviews with Bangladeshi union leaders.

The #CSDDD will set the ground for responsible business conduct within the EU and beyond.
But it is far from a resounding victory for victims and advocates: the CSDDD will now only apply to roughly 0.05% of EU companies & business activities

A big thank you to the @ECCJ team and membership, partner organisations and all those friends and allies who have been working relentlessly for a meaningful #CSDDD. Today's vote is an important step forward. Business must respect people and the planet!
🗞️#CSDDD NEWS
Today's endorsement of the CSDDD brings us 0.05% closer to corporate justice.
While it’s an important step, the last-minute changes due to political manoeuvres force the endorsement to cover even fewer EU companies.

Norway requires more of its companies to practice human rights due diligence than the whole of the European Union combined! But compromise still better than collapse. My comment as #EU2024BE announces the EU Supply Chain Act #CSDDD passes: linkedin.com/posts/richard-h… #bizhumanrights

Finally, the MS got their act together and reached an agreement on the #CSDDD. The price was a significant dilution of the level of ambition, but the core of this transformative legislation remains intact. The #UNGP will be, for the first time, codified in EU law.
⛓️ In the EU, it matters how products are made!
Ambassadors just confirmed the Corporate sustainability due diligence directive (#CSDDD)!

✅#CSDDD: @EUCouncil finds agreement on a common EU standard despite bitter concessions.
This can become a crucial piece of EU legislation, defining a level-playing-field on responsible corporate conduct for large companies in the EU.
