NCSIST said on Oct. 23 that it found a suspected PRC-made communication signal filter during an inspection of components for the air-launched Hsiung Feng III missile it is developing for the Indigenous Defense Fighter. The institute said the part had not been installed, contains no transmitting or embedded electronic components, and that it has asked the supplier for an explanation. NCSIST test-fired the missile near Jiupeng Military Base in July and must cut its weight below 1,000 kg for IDF carriage.

Official bidding results released by AVIC Chengdu effectively seal the deal for LandSpace's Zhuque-3 to launch the Haolong-1 reusable cargo spaceplane. Ranked as the primary winning candidate with a bid of ¥95 million (~$13.3M), LandSpace edged out CAS Space’s Kinetica-2 (¥100 M) by a razor-thin ¥5 million margin. The contract requires the launch service and on-orbit delivery within a 5-year window. #CNSPACE

To speak honestly is one of our weapons, to be open, and to be clear. Not to play games with our partners. This is my rule of thumb. There is a lot of pressure on Ukraine at the moment, and of course I have to be louder. And I will be, because it's part of our defense strategy. We are not trying to be somebody else. If I feel that dangerous things are looming over Ukraine, I have to defend my country. And I do what I can, like our soldiers on the battlefield and people who work for Ukraine. And I, the President, have to use every format of diplomacy. From an interview with The Sun. (2/3)

NETANYAHU FACES ELECTION SETBACK AS ISRAELI EXIT POLLS SHOW DEADLOCK Israeli exit polls show Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc running neck and neck with opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot, with neither side projected to secure the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. Voter turnout reached 77.7%, the highest in more than two decades. Arab parties could hold the balance of power, although coalition negotiations remain complicated.

US IRAN WAR COSTS SURPASS $47 BILLION, PENTAGON ESTIMATES The US military has spent more than $47 billion on the war in Iran, according to Pentagon data reviewed by Reuters, exceeding the Defense Department’s July estimate by over 25%. The costs include more than $29 billion to replenish munitions and over $6 billion to replace military equipment. The estimate does not clearly account for repairs to US bases damaged by Iranian missile and drone attacks.

NEW: Vladimir Putin spent most of his call with the leaders of Finland and Norway ranting about Slavic history, underscoring Europe's tough task backing Ukraine in peace talks. The planned 20-minute call dragged on for 90. A ceasefire barely came up: ft.com/content/a384acd1-c90c…
