Racism is not this myth you want it to be. If your immediate reaction to someone’s traumatic instance of racism is denial, then that’s a projection of your own inability to see racism.
.@worcesterpublic schools must inform parents, teachers, and students through communication sent home at every step of the way as to the changes being done to fix WPS. Lead in water and Asbestos in the walls are inexcusable.
DEMAND 9 | ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION AND TRANSPARENCY
We demand that Worcester Public Schools employ more clear and transparent plan of action in response to the elevated levels of lead and/or copper in the drinking water and the existence of PCBs and Asbestos-containing materials.
Guidance counselors can't do it all. We need a specific position in charge of handling student needs. Can you imagine what this would do for student happiness and wellbeing while also alleviating the stress of teachers and counselors?
DEMAND 8 | DIVERSITY COUNSELORS
We demand that Worcester Public Schools hire permanent diversity counselors for each high school tasked with responding specifically to psychological, physical & emotional needs of youth of color and other marginalized youth.
In order to adopt ES, WPS needs to expand funding to recruit, train its current educators, and support educators of color (from the community). Only 17% of WPS's teachers are POC, while 70% of the students are POC. FACULTY DIVERSITY IS SO IMPORTANT.
DEMAND 7 | ETHNIC STUDIES
Ethnic Studies is a discipline that teaches the histories and cultures of marginalized racial communities and the concepts of race and ethnicity. We demand for a mandatory Ethnic Studies (ES) curriculum to be adopted district-wide.
