I am deeply uninterested in opinions about teaching or schools if those opinions are coming from someone who is not a teacher in a school.
No system functions perfectly for everyone, but forgive me for thinking itās more reasonable to ask parents to take a few hours off work for Their Literal Children than to ask workers to give up 7 entire evenings for more work. Thatās your kid! Yours! š¤·š¼āāļø
Parent/teacher meetings used to be at the school in the evening. 1-2 hours of your free time, no big deal.
Now they happen during the day, you have to take time out of work for them.
Also the school closes 2 hours early for an entire week, to facilitate them, so you need extra childcare arrangements too.
Why does everything about parenting have to be harder for our generation?

š The 2016 Brexit electorate no longer exists.
Peter Kellner has updated the sums using YouGov and ONS data.
Since 2016:
š¹ Around 3.8m Leave voters have died, against 2.1m Remain voters.
š¹ Around 7m new voters have reached voting age, overwhelmingly pro-European.
š¹ Around 5m voters have changed their minds šroughly three-quarters of them moving from Leave to Rejoin.
His estimate of how Britain would vote now:
šŖšŗ REJOIN: 20.0m š 63%
š¬š§ STAY OUT: 11.8m š 37%
A majority of almost 9 million.
Brexit happened. Britain has lived with it for a decade.
But democracy does not freeze the electorate in 2016 forever.
The question is what Britain wants now not what it indicated in 2016.
š The Brexit majority hasnāt just slipped šitās vanished. Completely.
This chart from Peter Kellner/YouGov shows:
⢠5 million 2016 voters have died
⢠New young voters back Rejoin by 5:1
⢠29% of Leave voters now want to rejoin
⢠Net result: Rejoin 19.8m vs Stay Out 11.7m
ā”ļø An 8 MILLION majority for Rejoin.
Britain is now a pro-EU country.
The only people keeping Brexit alive are politicians who benefit from the damage.

Breaking my brain by looking through the responses and realizing people don't realize the joke is on Ackroyd's misogynistic character. When confronted by a confident woman who knows what she's talking about, he is reduced to a petulant, one-line temper tantrum.
Mandatory reading for everyone outside the classroom. Gone are the days of the teacher marking while you do silent work. We're fighting for our lives here!

I wrote an essay for UnHerd that explains part of the current backlash against immigration as a result of what I call "diversity stress": the constant low-grade anxiety associated with having to navigate the unfamiliar.
That's a legitimate grievance!
