Remarkable how his suggestion of an unbiased national broadcaster is purely hypothetical because the idea of one actually existing is so unbelievable.

One of the most misinformed groups in the world has to be people who watch John Oliver religiously, this is one of the better forum posts on the phenomenon of the "comedic-news" segments
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

True. But funny because Kisin is fond of an old blocking when he gets found out too. In 2023, he wrote about how he'd gotten it right about Covid. When I and others pointed out that he'd spent the first lockdown frowning at kids playing basketball in the park and becrying those who spoke out about the dissolution of rights and freedoms, he got very block happy indeed. Hence why I have to quote pic this tweet.

I never liked the Spire but it occurs to me now how perfect it is as a representative monument for Ireland. A modern, sterile, hollow edifice that represents nothing whatsoever.

The hill I will die on is that Borat was a garbage movie. It seemed funny only because it presented its jokes as "real" and unscripted. We have a lower bar for humour that is real. That's why we might laugh at someone falling over in a candid camera show but would never laugh at something so banal in a scripted show or movie. In the show or movie we expect grander humour. Borat presented its school grade gags as real and unscripted so people laughed at them but of course it was all scripted and contrived. It did to comedy what the Blair Witch Project did to horror. The BWP's naff little story was scary only because an audience was duped into thinking it was real. Both movies were the rebranding of mediocrity.

Governments just don't fall in Ireland anymore. Basically never happens despite far greater crimes and incompetencies than previous generations. I suspect it is part of the evolution of governments in the democratic system. Like a parasite, they have learned how to survive in previously untenable environments. Mainly through media control, NGO insulation and the effective legalisation and normalisation of corruption and collusion. The coalition of the only two parties to ever lead a government in this country has cemented this process.
I don't normally get so angry I could scream, but the latest Tusla outrage really should bring down the Government. Albert Reynolds' Government fell for far less. Credit to Kitty Holland for at least caring: johnandsarah.ie/p/the-14-yea…

Very very cool. Utterly zero practical value in the real world but very cool. He puts on a good show.

We can't keep changing the fabric of our society based on the obscene views of a very loud but very small minority of extremists.

Imagine falling to the ground and lying comatose like that because a ball grazed your face. The utter indignity you bring on yourself and your whole family would not be worth the highest of prizes.

Even when sentencing the man who stabbed multiple children in a frenzied attack, completely ruining the life of one of them - the emphasis stays on the people reacting to the madness rather than the madness itself.

Honestly, one of the best lines from a movie: Heist (2001) Danny De Vito on the ground with a gun on him: "Don't you want to hear my last words?" Gene Hackman, holding the gun: "I just did." BANG!

No. 3, If I call 911, imma just tell them I've been kidnapped...
If you get kidnapped this might save your life : 1. Spit all over the ground; it's your DNA. 2. If they carry you, scratch them, their DNA is under your nails. 3. Call 911 and ask for a a pizza they will know you need help. 4. If you need to call someone, like 911, but can't speak, call 55, they will track your location. 5. If you are in a car/truck, try breaking the tail light. If you stick out your hand, the car behind you will probably call the police. ***if you come across this post and find it useful tap follow and let's stay in touch.🤝

lol...cigarette increase. You'd almost be shot if you didn't increase cigarettes in the budget - the easiest of all proposals. You know, there's been a tax increase on cigarettes in every single budget since 2011.

I assume the premise here is the 9 albums that shaped you when you were getting into music, most likely as a teenager. That was the 90s for me so here's mine.

Succinct Must be terrible when/if you realise you played an active part in this goulish, life-ruining madness.
But it couldn’t be social contagion, folks. It’s just that young people, especially autistic, gay and mentally ill ones, are finally free to be their authentic selves. The sudden explosion of young women who want to cut off their healthy breasts and take testosterone? Well, it’s absolutely not the newest form of self-harm, to which troubled adolescent girls are provably prone, ok? It’s not a consequence of the commonplace fear of becoming an adult woman, with all that that entails. No, there’s nothing to worry about there. The possibility of regret? Naturally, we don’t let minors get tattoos or own guns or vote, because that would be ridiculous, but if they want irreversible surgeries and drug treatments, they must be given them, and everyone around them must immediately agree they are now the opposite sex. That’s called being kind. And the mounting numbers of detransitioners? They were never trans, obviously, and should be mercilessly attacked, especially if they now say they were vulnerable and in a friendship group, online or off, dominated by trans identities, where transitioning was presented as a way to resolve all their social and emotional difficulties. (I have the emails). No, there’s nothing whatsoever to see here. Keep justifying it, keep cheering it on, keep insisting that the doctors and drug companies making serious money out of it all are acting with the purest of motives. Answer every reasonable question with an accusation of hatred and bigotry. Dispel every qualm of conscience with an activist-approved talking point. Reassure yourself that everyone on your dinner party circuit agrees with you. And when, in years to come, we’re all looking back on graphs like this, be proud that you did your bit to monster whistleblowers, parrot unevidenced claims and create the climate of fear that allowed the worst medical scandal in a century to take place.
