Only Mr. @ShashiTharoor can make our every day humble Idli sound like a very exotic delectable aspirational dish 😅
Indeed! To conflate a Rasgulla with an Idli is not just a culinary error; it is a profound cosmological misunderstanding.
To begin with, the comparison is practically a biological impossibility. She is comparing chhena (the delicate, squeaky, pristine curd of milk) with a meticulously fermented batter of parboiled rice and black gram (urad dal). Their compositions are from entirely different kingdoms. One is an airy, spongy lattice designed to trap light sugar syrup; the other is a dense, wholesome, steamed matrix of complex carbohydrates and proteins. Their taste, consistency, structural integrity, and existential purpose share absolutely nothing in common.
But more important, her attempt to dismiss the Idli as merely a blank canvas for sugar syrup does a grave disservice to what is arguably one of the greatest engineering marvels of the culinary world.
The Idli is not a mere "bland cake." It is a masterclass in biotechnology. To achieve the perfect Idli is to balance the delicate microflora of wild fermentation over a cold night, resulting in a steamed cloud that is a triumph of gut health, lightness, and nutritional balance. It is a savoury monolith of South Indian culinary genius, perfectly engineered to absorb the sharp tang of a well-spiced sambar or the fiery depth of a molaga-podi (gunpowder) paste infused with cold-pressed sesame oil or nutritious melted ghee.
To suggest an Idli would even consent to being drowned in sugar syrup is to fundamentally misunderstand its dignity.
If this lady finds Rasgullas overrated, argue that on the merits of their sponginess or sweetness. But please, leave the noble, perfectly fermented, steamed majesty of the Idli out of your dessert-table polemics, ma'am!
May Maroof Ji Rest in peace. India lost a brave officer and defence expert.
Heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Raza and children. Lost a respectful neighbour whom we looked upto. A gentleman, always walking straight with such strong strides even when battling serious health issues.🙏🏼

Replying to @mesmerisingmegh
@mesmerisingmegh Request a campaign on importance of rear seat belts. Few family members from Hyd and I visited Shillong. It is indeed mesmerising. Taxi drivers are very courteous n drive safely. But none, including new Taxis, have seat belts in rear seats.
@mesmerisingmegh Driving from Guwahati airport on the hilly stretch, without seat belt, feels very unsafe.

In the dead of night, a five-month-old pup named Rocky did what no warning system could.
It was past midnight on June 26 in Himachal’s Mandi, when the ground beneath Siyathi village was quietly giving way. Rain lashed relentlessly. Families slept, unaware of the disaster creeping toward them.
But one tiny heart was wide awake.
Rocky, began barking and howling in a way his owner had never heard before. It was strange, urgent, desperate. His owner Lalit Kumar rushed down and found a massive crack in the wall with water pouring in.
“I was woken by my dog’s strange barking, as if he was trying to warn me,” Lalit told India Today. “When I reached him, I saw a huge crack in the wall and water pouring in.”
Lalit picked Rocky up and ran. Not to escape, but to wake others. He went door to door, shouting, banging, urging every neighbour to leave. And within minutes, 63 people fled their homes and ran to safety.
Moments later, a massive landslide hit. Nearly a dozen homes were buried under mud and debris. Only four or five structures remained visible. But not a single life was lost.
After helping save an entire village, Rocky himself got stuck and had to be rescued. He was found later, muddy, shaken, but alive.

When American Foreign n Eco’c policy is stressing you out, better to go back to American poets, mostly 16th to 18th century. Trust me, they can calm you down like no pulp fiction can ever. Pity this anthology published in 2024,doesn’t have a single poet of 19 or 20th century
Hearty Congratulations Anand Sir. Kudos to the whole team. You have done the City proud. @CPHydCity

Mr Henry Kissinger once declared “America has no permanent friends or enemies only interests”. An age old statement
