I’ve seen Cambridge United lose midweek at Hyde and Southport and Salisbury.
I’ve just seen them win at Newcastle, one of the greatest results in the history of the football club.
The FA Cup will always be important.
The non-League days may start to feel like pre-history but 13 years ago today Cambridge United lost at home to Hyde with a crowd below 1,800. Tonight they took the game to Sheffield Wednesday and could easily have found a winner in front of 30,000 at Hillsborough.
How bloody enjoyable it is to watch this Cambridge United side. Sheffield Wednesday had their chances, Eastwood with a colossal save at 1-0, but United end the game laying siege in search of a winner at Hillsborough. That’s quite a sentence. Superb response to losing on Saturday.
Good half of football. The fact we’re talking about potentially regretting missed chances tells you how well U’s are going and have taken the game to Sheffield Wednesday. Both sides can say they should be ahead. United in no way overawed.
A rare novelty to see two clubs have their staff listed as well as their line-ups, and with their middle names too. Martin Davies having the middle name Lemuel is exactly the kind of thing I needed to know.
Callum Perry appears for the first time since September 19th, Shane McLoughlin for the first time since August 22nd. Sullay Kaikai on the bench is a surprise if he’s fully fit, makes it a big night for Isaac Heath.

Cambridge United 2-3 Plymouth, game 12 of this season, the first time the U's concede three in a league game since match 2 of the previous season.
U's fall to defeat but even in losing there should be a tonne more positives than negatives. Against less fancied opponents than Plymouth they take something from that, still don't know when they're beaten. Magnificent game to watch, shouldn't be heading home too downbeat.
U’s haven’t played at all poorly, created chances but relied on two big Eastwood saves. Already looking like a game to be decided by a mistake, then Appéré heads in an own goal

Neil Harris: "It just shows where we’re at as a football club. It’s not just about the team, it’s the football club in itself. We didn’t lie down. At 2-0 we could have just downed tools and look forward to Saturday, but we didn’t. Again we found a way."
Neil Harris: "We weren’t at the races tonight. That’s something I’ve got to look at and work out, but ultimately I can’t praise the players highly enough for the desire and determination and the quality to come back and get a point."
