Another angle to this is that dogs effectively stumbled onto what is for them the equivalent of artificial superintelligence 20,000 years ago. The Singularity already happened for dogs. They live in a world they cannot understand, surrounded by miraculous wonders they take entirely for granted, their every need seen to by entities whose thoughts they cannot begin to fathom. The result is that there are about a billion dogs on the planet now. Most of them are pretty happy. Almost none of them need to work. It worked out pretty well for them.

The well-known Soviet and Russian film director and writer EDUARD TOPOL (Edmond Topelberg) has written an open letter to US President Donald Trump. "Dear Mr. President! Dear Donald! As the author of fifty books and a dozen films about Russia, I consider myself entitled to inform you before your meeting with Putin. You should know that he cannot stop the war with Ukraine, even if you give him your Mar-a-Lago villa on Palm Beach, Trump Tower in New York, and a dozen of your golf clubs. And not because he does not want to take a break from the war, but because he cannot. Since he knows Russian history not from a textbook by Medinsky, but from the real one: The return of Russian troops from Europe to Russia after the victory over Napoleon led to the anti-tsarist uprising of the Decembrists in 1825. The defeat of Russia in the Russo-Japanese War led to the revolution of 1905. The escape of a million Russian soldiers from the Russian-German front during World War I led to the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II from the throne and the February Revolution of 1917. The peace signed by Lenin with Germany allowed the Bolsheviks to shoot the entire royal family. With the return of Soviet troops from Afghanistan in February 1989, the collapse of the USSR began. Knowing this, Putin cannot end the war with Ukraine and return his troops home. Only the possibility of leaving almost its entire army in Europe as occupation troops in May 1945 helped Stalin avoid a post-war coup. That's why Putin dreams of occupying Ukraine, as well as the Baltics, Finland, Poland, etc., to keep his army away from Moscow. He remembers how 525 thousand soldiers who returned from Afghanistan in 1989 turned into bandits-afghans, terrorizing the entire population of the USSR. And he knows what will happen if one and a half million soldiers who are able to professionally kill, rob, and rape return from the Ukrainian front. The war with Ukraine allowed Putin to get rid of two million of his most active opponents, whom he forced to flee from Russia, and the rest of the young Russian men he either drove to the front or recruited into the punitive services. Today, any war - with Ukraine, with the Baltics, with NATO - and with anyone else - is the best way to force Russia to submit to Putin and his junta. Unfortunately, none of your advisors will explain this to you before meeting with Putin, but you can check my arguments with Jack Matlock and Michael McFaul. I don't want Putin, a gangster, thief, and murderer of millions of people, to continue brazenly fooling you, lying, and deceiving my President. Of course, I'm not a military expert or a political scientist, but I'm a writer with a good memory. I remember how Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II managed to bring the price of oil down to $9 a barrel, gave the Afghans "Stingers," and thereby stopped Moscow's capture of Afghanistan and destroyed the USSR. If you want to stop Putin and imperial ambitions, at least half of the Russian population, you need to do the same thing—lower the price of oil to at least $25 a barrel and give Ukraine the weapons that will help it crush the aggressor. As for your desire to establish American-Russian partnership business relations, not in words, but in practice, this can happen in a hundred years or, in general, never. If you're interested in why, call me, I'll explain. Respectfully, EDWARD TOPOLE, a citizen of the USA and Israel.

Ppl r hallucinating on Greenland’s mineral wealth. Exploring and mining in the Arctic is a literal hellscape. The constraints r insane and the costs to overcome 'em r mooning way past imagination. Geologically, permafrost is a nightmare. Ground’s frozen solid—normal drilling hits a wall. Building stable foundations for gear is a massive money pit. Ops r cooked too. Constant darkness for months in winter. Working 24/7 under floodlights craters efficiency and spikes accident risk. At -40°C to -50°C, metal gets brittle and just snaps. U need custom alloy gear, and keeping fuel/lube from freezing is a constant battle. The diesel/power burn just to keep lights on and engines warm is eye-watering. Immediate Opex blow-up. Logistics? Absolute disaster. It’s not about digging it out; it’s about moving it. Zero roads or rails. Everything moves by heli, light plane, or ship. Moving ore to a port costs multiples of what normal mines pay. Plus, zero local smelters. U gotta ship it across oceans, burning time and cash. Shipping windows r tiny. Some coasts r only accessible a few months a year. U either pay for icebreakers or pray the 1-year supply/export window doesn’t get wrecked by bad weather. If the ship misses the slot, the whole year is a wash. Look at the Citronen Fjord Zn project at 83°N. It’s one of the world's biggest undeveloped Zn-Pb deposits, but it's 2,100km north of Nuuk. Total isolation. They get a 3-month window to move a year’s worth of cargo. One bad storm and the project is bricked for the season. Ironbark Zinc tried for ages, but it just got flipped to Dubai-based Almeera Ventures. That’s a clear signal on how brutal the Capex and funding hurdles r. The core issue: does the margin even justify the risk? Building a mine w/ zero infra is a Capex black hole. Think global warming helps? Think again. Thawing permafrost is actually trashing existing infra and roads. Extreme weather just jacks up Opex even more. We’re talking 10-15 yrs from discovery to first ore. If commodity prices crater in between, u’re left holding a stranded asset. This is the reality of mining. Arctic dev is 10x harder than u think. Plz, stop living in a dream world. There’s a reason Denmark wasn't aggressive on dev. U really think they held back just to protect the Inuit? Give me a break. Money always trumps ESG in the end, no matter the optics. U can spam 'self-sufficiency' and 'strategy' all u want, but u can't meme ur way past physics and economics. Wake up. #Greenland

I'll say it again: In my opinion, when companies or institutions cave to Trump despite the law being on their side, they are not misunderstanding the law; they are making educated guesses that the U.S. is heading in a direction where, in practice, the law won't matter.

Leaving the ECHR will not allow you to deport all Asylum Seekers, you can't deport a person without the other country accepting them. But it will allow the State Pension, Minimum Wage, Paid Holiday, Max Working Hours, Maternity Leave and much more to be cancelled.

Love this! A protester who got hit with tear gas in LA had this to say about it “Tasted a little tear gas — tasted like fascism.” What an amazing response. People are sick and tired of Trump and his dictatorship.

No Keir, we're angry with you. Immigrants didn't cut the Winter Fuel Allowance - you did. Immigrants didn't cut support payments for disabled people - you did. Immigrants didn't cut funding for farmers - you did. Stop scapegoating immigrants and start taking responsibility
I know you're angry about immigration. I get it. Mark my words: I will take back control of our borders. That means cutting migration, ending the use of asylum hotels, and ramping up our efforts to stop small boat crossings. We will smash the people smuggling gangs at source.

Right now, in many regions, you can literally hear what Russia truly needs. Around 40 "Shahed" drones are in our skies, and air defense is active. Unfortunately, there have been hits, specifically on civilian infrastructure. A direct hit by a "Shahed" drone on a hospital in Sumy, strikes on cities in the Donetsk region, and attack drones currently in the skies over the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions. It is these types of nighttime attacks by Russia that destroy our energy sector, our infrastructure, and the normal life of Ukrainians. And the fact that this night is no exception shows that the pressure on Russia must continue for the sake of peace. Today, Putin effectively rejected the proposal for a full ceasefire. It would be right for the world to respond by rejecting any attempts by Putin to prolong the war. Sanctions against Russia. Assistance to Ukraine. Strengthening allies in the free world and working toward security guarantees. And only a real cessation of strikes on civilian infrastructure by Russia, as proof of its willingness to end this war, can bring peace closer.

From T.H. White 'The Book of Merlyn' “We find that at present the human race is divided into one wise man, nine knaves, and ninety fools out of every hundred. That is, by an optimistic observer. The nine knaves assemble themselves under the banner of the most knavish among them, and become 'politicians'; the wise man stands out, because he knows himself to be hopelessly outnumbered, and devotes himself to poetry, mathematics, or philosophy; while the ninety fools plod off under the banners of the nine villains, according to fancy, into the labyrinths of chicanery, malice and warfare. It is pleasant to have command, observes Sancho Panza, even over a flock of sheep, and that is why the politicians raise their banners. It is, moreover, the same thing for the sheep whatever the banner. If it is democracy, then the nine knaves will become members of parliament; if fascism, they will become party leaders; if communism, commissars. Nothing will be different, except the name. The fools will be still fools, the knaves still leaders, the results still exploitation. As for the wise man, his lot will be much the same under any ideology. Under democracy he will be encouraged to starve to death in a garret, under fascism he will be put in a concentration camp, under communism he will be liquidated.”
