~now with pretty radar~ Turkiye surface rupture mapping fast and free! It's wildly preliminary, but hopefully getting this out quickly supports local work.

Ok not entirely true. Iris likes to rollerblade around town and bring back rocks that are *just so* and arrange them *just this way.* Amazing what turns up.
Shit, these fires. 50,000 acres / 20,000+ hectares more burned in one night. Greenville ravaged, Chester threatened 💔
This one is too close to home

Finally, here are some photos of Alan Nelson, Guy Gelfenbaum, @diatomdura, and @SeaLevelChange working on Chirikof in 2010, and a photo of the abandoned cobble-cored berm
The inference we drew from the abandoned berms at Chirikof, along with stratigraphic evidence, was that a much larger uplift had occurred in the past -- but also, the abandoned shoreline is close to being reoccupied today. Here is another map of advancing berms.
It's too early to say for sure, but the preliminary FFM suggests vertical motion was small at Chirikof this time. Please oh please let's hope GNSS station AC13 has solid data! This is pre-EQ from geodesy.unr.edu/NGLStationPa…
As the island subsides, previously abandoned storm berms are being reoccupied. This is the signature of an island riding the elastic yo-yo above the locked patch of a megathrust.
Some Perryville M 8.2 thoughts: One of the arresting things about Chirikof coastal geology is that the island is clearly sinking like a stone today, evident in geodesy and coastal geology. Figure from Nelson et al. 2015 doi.org/10.1130/GES01108.1
*BUT* that isn't the entire story
