ABC commentary prior to coronation was sound thoughtful discussion about the relevance of Monarchy in Australia. It was positive thoughtful and unemotional. Excellent. Elderly Monarchists would not have understood points made. I hope there is more in future.

In all my decades of covering national politics I think this was the most grimly consequential story I covered. It opened the Pandora’s box of xenophobic racism and fear that political leaders had kept the lid on since the end of the White Australia policy. Thank you John Howard!
