My mother died in 2015 of hereditary ALS. Her sister died in 2022. Their father died in 1974. In 1969 he sat his children down and told them that he was going to die, and he had passed this illness to them, and when they grew up they couldn't have any children of their own.

I am deeply in love with my wonderful boyfriend. I can still get pregnant with IVF. I have a deeply fulfilling career in massage, and through everything I even still have my childhood cat Luna. My future - and my present - is so, so bright. I never thought I could have this.

Thank you to the Les Turner ALS Foundation for developing testing and treatment for this disease. A genetic test gave me a life I never thought I could have.

My thoughts while my boyfriend is driving 30 hours to move in with me: "I hope my feelings aren't too much 🥺 I hope he likes me 🥺"

Worrying is an autoimmune response like allergies. There's a theory that we get allergies because our parasite load is so low in modern society, and I think we worry for similar reasons.

the parental neglect didn't even affect me that much. it was being born inherently wrong that did most of the work
