We've spent the last few years designing for companies building autonomous naval vessels, electromagnetic drone defense, ocean robots, and AI-run supply chains. Companies like @Saronic, @Epirus, and @Anduriltech. A pattern emerged. We wrote it down. thenewindustrials.com/

Seasats builds robots that autonomously cross the world's oceans. We built a brand for them around the real people making them. Thanks, @awwwards voters for the recognition!
Today’s #SOTD goes to Raw Materials for "Seasats". awwwards.com/sites/seasats A San Diego–based robotics and marine technology company designing and building autonomous surface vehicles. Congratulations!

What does it mean to design for intelligent products? For some time now, we've sort of designed and built software inside one paradigm. You devise the logic and the ideas and the software does what you explicitly tell it to, one instruction at a time. But it is kind of clear now that this paradigm is changing. Software is starting to recognize intent rather than requiring precise and deterministic instructions. The whole “If this, then that”. So last February, we put that on the table at Foreign Cinema in San Francisco. Frontier Dialogues, Edition 1. Was born. The first prototype, the alpha version. Delicious alpha version, if we’re being honest. Some food, some drinks, 13 design leaders, and one question: What does it mean to design for intelligent products? Read the group's collective thoughts below..

Some interfaces have actually been social contracts. Everyone posts a photo, everyone either comments or likes that photo. These are interface choices, but they are also a contract among users agreeing behave the same standard way, and that creates social interaction platforms. When you move to generative and personalized interfaces and software, how does that change?

Also, there were deep chats about that something in work, which, when made by a human spirit, elicits a stronger response from other people. As the basics get automated, maybe the designer's role is to be more human, to connect more deeply, akin to an artist.
