Your Docker containers are slow, bloated, and vulnerable. And you’re probably making the same mistakes 90% of engineers make in production. Take my advice and please • Don’t use “latest” tags, instead use specific versions like node:18.17-alpine • Don’t build single-stage fat images; instead, use multi-stage builds to get 50MB images instead of 800MB • Don’t run containers as root, instead, create a non-root user for security • Don’t copy everything with COPY . ., instead use .dockerignore and specific COPY commands • Don’t let containers use unlimited resources, instead set proper memory and CPU limits • Don’t deploy without health checks, instead add HEALTHCHECK commands so Kubernetes knows your app works • Don’t create 20 separate RUN layers, instead combine commands with && to minimize layers • Don’t skip security scanning, instead use docker scan or Trivy in your CI/CD pipeline • Don’t use full OS images for simple apps, instead use scratch or distroless base images • Don’t write logs to files inside containers; instead, log to stdout/stderr and let orchestrators handle collection These practices make the difference between hobby projects and production systems. Your containers should be fast, secure, and predictable. Not slow, vulnerable time bombs.

stay grounded, keep cooking the ai hype cycle is wild, and we all feel some anxiety — every week there's some new model that's supposedly gonna change everything and everyone's scrambling to keep up but here's the thing: the fundamentals don't change. good design is still good design. solving real human problems, finding the ideal systems, making the best tools are still what matters. same with competition: know what they're building, but don't watch too closely. the anxiety comes from thinking you have to chase every trend or copy every feature or you'll get left behind. most trends are just noise. most competitor moves are just reactions to other reactions. focus on what's always been true: understand your systems and users, solve real problems, build quality stuff with care. stay grounded in your values and let the technology serve your vision, not the other way around. the best builders aren't the ones following every ai paper on twitter or obsessing over what others ship. they're the ones using whatever tools help them build the best thing for people. make your own best thing. everything else is distraction.

A small Chinese startup dropped a video gen model that beats Google's Veo 3 in almost every test you throw at it. Generates accurate Physics. Does celebrity faces. ~100 ELO above Veo3 on the leaderboard Passes the gymnastics Turing test. AND Hailuo is only $8/mo vs $250/mo!

This wouldn’t exist without: @anke_g_liu for pushing to get this out before year-end. @bhavenk of Blip for setting up the indexers, history archives and coding up the algo to generate each individual wrap. Tinkerpal, Williams & @raybaann of @attestprotocol on dev & engineering.

I read Google's paper about their quantum computer so you don't have to. They claim to have ran a quantum computation in 5 minutes that would take a normal computer 10^25 years. But what was that computation? Does it live up to the hype? I will break it down.🧵

You can think of an individual qbit as a "probability distribution" -- it averages around certain values but doesn't have a concrete value. However, when the qbit is "observed" it is forced into a vector representation of either [1, 0] represnting a binary 0, or [0, 1] representing a binary 1. We call the transformation from a "probability distribution" to a concrete binary value "collapsing" the qbit.
