When Putin first cracked down on the briefly free press, he didn’t have the power or resources to censor like China. He squeezed the owners, threatened journalists, and created *more* sources with varying ways of pushing regime propaganda. But as his power grew, censorship grew.

The number of officers who are just TELLING us that pre-charge bail has been extended beyond 3 months and 6 months! Did I miss the memo about police unilaterally deciding to ignore right of suspect (via their solicitor if represented) to make reps upon application for extension?

Friday musings: why is HMP Pentonville allowed to ignore legal correspondence requesting legal visits for days on end? How are we supposed to clear the backlog whilst this is happening. Is HMCTS/the judiciary in East London courts aware of this bottle neck? It's becoming a joke.

THREAD: EXAMPLES OF VOTER SUPPRESSION
Here are just a handful of examples of people being denied their vote today because of Tory voter suppression.
There are already more examples within this short thread than the total number of cases of voter fraud over the last few years.

Added: This thread doesn't feel like it captures the true extent of the problem, so I've rustled up 70 examples of voter suppression.

THREAD: 70 examples of Tory voter suppression in today's local election.
That's already much more than the number of recent fraudulent vote cases.
REMINDER: The Electoral Commission has said that there's "no evidence of large-scale electoral fraud".

Why are they always a problem?

Not sure if I still want to be on Twitter. But I’m here, so I’ll share some electric reporting from @david_conn on the scandal of stolen PPE £millions by Baroness Mone. Difficult to still be shocked. But it’s sickening.
EXCLUSIVE: Revealed: Conservative peer Michelle Mone secretly received £29m from ‘VIP lane’ PPE company, documents seen by the Guardian indicate.
