(Semafor) El-Sayed’s new ad pitch: Republicans love me
The new ad will get a six-figure buy, according to details shared first with Semafor. It features El-Sayed saying that “free speech is under attack, and we should be making America healthy again,” before pointing to a screen that plays laudatory words from Fox News host Jesse Watters (“he beat the machine”), Tucker Carlson (“I wouldn’t vote for Mike Rogers at gunpoint”), and others.

In 2022, Mike Lawler said: “Before you vote tomorrow, fill up your tank and go grocery shopping — it will inform your decision.” So we took him up on that.
Before early voting starts tomorrow, try it. Then tell me if the system’s working for you.
It shouldn’t be this hard. You deserve better.

Churchill could have shortened WW2 by years if he had just “done a deal” with Hitler. George Washington could have done a deal to end the American Revolution. Zelenskyy is in good company.

“we will pay any price….to assure the success and survival of liberty.” Is this still true? Do we prize liberty or do we prize power and purse? No more clear test than the choice between Ukraine and Russia. Abandon Ukraine and we abandon liberty. Eventually even our own.

.@elonmusk please tell me these overnight disruptions to Starlink terminals in Ukraine were unintended - that @SpaceX is doing everything it can to fix a temporary glitch.
I'm confident this does not reflect a change in SpaceX policy because if so, intentionally degrading Ukraine's ability to defend itself might be construed as aiding and abetting a mass murderer. Can you confirm that's not SpaceX’s intent?
Ukrainians simply want to live in peace. They did not ask Putin to bomb their homes, schools and hospitals. They do not want Putin to kidnap and brainwash their children. They are not interested in destroying energy infrastructure - in Ukraine or in Russia. They only want to defend their country and live their lives.
Supporting Ukrainian sovereignty - or at the very least, allowing for it - should not be a gray area for the U.S. government or for American corporations. Can you clarify the SpaceX position?

It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel.
If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.

Because we gave them that L in 1776.

Francis Fukuyama on the U.S. as a declining power:
American decline is a direct product of Trump's rise since 2016.
It is as if Trump had decided to do everything in his power to weaken the United States vis-à-vis China.
He has polarized an already polarized country, cut funding for basic scientific research, and attacked American universities which are the best in the world.
He and his colleagues have openly stated that their domestic opponents — the Democrats — are a far greater threat to the future of the United States than either China or Russia.
There is agreement among America's friends and rivals that the United States has become something of a rogue state that is contributing to global instability and disorder — as well as something of a laughingstock.

In the speech that enraged Pete Hegseth and top Pentagon officials, Pope Leo XIV said: “A diplomacy that promotes dialogue and seeks consensus among all parties is being replaced by a diplomacy based on force.”
“War is back in vogue, and a zeal for war is spreading.
“The principle established after the Second World War, which prohibited nations from using force to violate the borders of others, has been completely undermined.”

CBS News: Survivors of the deadliest Iranian attack on U.S. forces since the war began are disputing the Pentagon’s account, saying their unit in Kuwait was left exposed when six service members were killed and more than 20 wounded.
Troops pushed back on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s description of the drone as a “squirter,” saying it slipped through defenses at a fortified site.
“Painting a picture that ‘one squeaked through’ is a falsehood,” one injured soldier said. “I want people to know the unit … was unprepared to provide any defense for itself. It was not a fortified position.”
