I like how this tweet leads people up the garden path to call Sally Rooney's writing bad without telling anyone the author, book or context of the passage. Commenters are so in the dark they're faulting Normal People for not being a romantic bodice ripper.
“Not even in a sexy way, but just because she was so drunk and high.” This is the writing our society chooses to give literary prizes to. As lovers of literature, we have a duty to choose whether we’d like to continue feeding the mass delusion that this is good writing or whether the time has come to say no minimalist slop and to bring back beauty in our prose.

I wish I could get a job as a roving copy-editor, tasked with correcting spelling and grammar mistakes wherever they occur. Paid per mistake fixed across any and all media. I would also fix errors in transcription.

I want to introduce you to Steve. He’s 83. His wife died a few months ago and he comes to this lodge in Spring Mill, Indiana and draws. He taught art in Terre Haute, IN his whole life. He also did courtroom sketches in court cases. In the comments I’ll share some pics from his sketchbook. He was excited when I said I was going to share his sketches with the world.
