A better way to look at it is “man, if this guy could compete with his shortcomings it’s possible he really knows some things that could help others!” There’s a reason it’s not usually the best players who are great coaches. It’s the guys who had to struggle to find every edge.

A crazy stat from Jayson Stark "In the history of postseason baseball, there have only been two times when two lefty hitters have hit back-to-back homers off a lefty. Schwarber and Harper yesterday. The other? Ruth and Gehrig 98 years ago." 📸Edward M. Pio Roda/Getty Images

You have a kid playing sports? Listen to this. You've ever fallen on your face? Listen to this. Ever failed? Listen to this. Insane respect for Bryce in the way he framed this. It needs to be heard. teapawt.net/ThePhilliesShow/status…
Bryce Harper thought about his son Krew and "what [he] would say to him in that situation" as he turned the page on the misplay in right field. ❤️

This is stuff of legends. Chris Sanchez said after the 7th inning before he walked in the clubhouse, he told Bryce Harper, who looked upset, you’re going make a play for us. Bryce looked at his and nodded. This was Chris’ reaction in the clubhouse when he saw the HR:

Your daughter running out to get you to cap a Hall of Fame, World Series-winning career? Almost too much.
The perfect ending for Justin Verlander. His daughter runs out to the mound and he walks off with his family. Feels like a movie.

Velocity is like wading into the ocean. The longer you’re in it, the more comfortable it becomes.
When I was playing with the St. Louis Cardinals, we did a drill that made me super uncomfortable. Pitchers started throwing 100 MPH. One thing that helped me adjust to the increased velocity was actually training at speeds that felt faster than the game. We would take the pitching machine out on the field and crank it up as fast as we could. It wasn't pretty. The ball would cut. Sink. Dive. Take off. Sometimes it was just uncomfortable trying to hit it. But that was the point. We were forcing our eyes and bodies to adjust to something that felt faster and harder than what we'd see in the game. Then when we faced normal game velocity... The game felt slower. If I were training a hitter struggling with velocity today, here's what I'd do: Take 15–20 swings against a machine set faster than what you normally face. Don't worry about crushing every ball. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Then bring the machine back down to the velocity you normally see and take another 15–20 swings. Feel the difference. Because there's one thing I learned playing this game... If you want the game to slow down, sometimes you have to make practice speed up, and much harder. Thank you for reading, - Jermaine Curtis P.S. - If you enjoyed this, and thought it was helpful, please share it. (This tells me you want more content like this)
