Thomas Hawtrey’s translation of Iliad 3.234–244, an attempt to reproduce the rhythm of Homer’s dactylic hexameter in English. Matthew Arnold praised it as “the most successful attempt hitherto made at rendering Homer into English.” Read it aloud and feel how beautiful the rhythm is.

The edition Kalos bought is great. This reminds me I should put a specific recommendation on my profile. I recommend both Jack Stillinger editions pictured. The left has excellent notes and commentary. The right is the fuller critical edition, with textual notes and variants.
