MORE: Putin is trying once again to breathe life into the myth of inevitable Russian military victory in order to persuade the United States and other supporters of Ukraine to compel Kyiv to surrender. Putin constantly asserts that Russian forces are making gains along the entire frontline. He makes claims of territorial gains so far from reality as to be fantasy. He hearkens back to the Soviet Union and the Red Army to evoke images of Soviet hordes overrunning the German Wehrmacht. But these claims, images, and maps of supposed Russian gains are all fictional. Reality is quite the opposite.
SPECIAL REPORT: Russian military victory over Ukraine is not inevitable. It is extraordinarily unlikely, in fact, unless Western support for Ukraine collapses. There is simply no inevitable correlation between the relative size of combatants and the outcome of a war — particularly when the war is existential for the smaller state but not for the larger one, as is true today. Russian President Vladimir Putin is nevertheless trying once again to breathe life into the myth of inevitable Russian military victory in order to persuade the United States and other supporters of Ukraine to compel Kyiv to surrender. Ukraine, not Russia, has actually held the initiative in key sectors of the frontline for much of the year and has developed a number of ways of offsetting the overall Russian manpower advantage. Russia’s population and relative (but diminishing) wealth will let Putin continue his war for a long time, to be sure. But Ukraine can also continue fighting for its existence as long as Western support continues.

Says man who has spent nearly $1B on political campaigns
Replying to @elonmusk
And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

Should be evidence for any congressional inquiries into what happened with Starshield. If Musk is throttling a Pentagon-run defense network, which was commissioned to work in a partner nation as a matter of U.S. policy, because of his own political bias or desire to sway the midterms he’s heavily invested in (see his subsequent tweet), then he represents a national security risk. I’d argue he represents that anyway.
What’s actually going on in Ukraine is that there is a massive incentive difference between the elites and the people. The former have grown very rich off the hundreds of billions flowing to Ukraine, while the latter’s children are conscripted to die in trenches.

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

"Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much." - President Trump, earlier today
A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.

PS I’ve met Putin many times and listened in on calls with him as well. I also speak Russian. Yes he is soft spoken, deliberate, and measured. So what? He’s still a killer. He still launched a barbaric invasion of Ukraine, that has produced tragic loss of life not seen on this scale in Europe since WWII.
Vance: "I've never met Putin in person. I've spoken to him on the phone. He was calmer than you might expect. The American media has a stereotype of him. He's very deliberate and measured in his words. I think, at his core, he's someone who cares about Russia's interests as he sees them. One reason he respects the President is that he recognizes the President cares about the interests of the American people."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine’s Starlink systems remain capped at 161 km/h (100 mph), according to Christopher Miller of the Financial Times. He said exceeding the limit “causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone,” adding that interceptor drones can’t function. Zelenskyy said Ukraine tested whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as the U.S. side told Kyiv, by sending vehicles with Starlink terminals into EU territory. He said they moved at more than 180 km/h and the systems “worked perfectly.” He said Ukraine has logs and evidence, and concluded the restrictions apply inside Ukraine but not in the EU, which he called a “planned operation.”
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone." He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population." He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory." "They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this." He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

“Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal. The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions. One of the sources said Mr Trump “agreed” with Mr Musk’s suggestion, paving the way for the Pentagon to execute the slowdown on Starshield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications system.

A lot of folks who hate lawyers apparently lack the courage to hate lawyer impersonators.
Failing the bar exam isn’t the embarrassing part of this story 😬 Explaining that you’re a “lawyer,” just not an “attorney,” after serving as “general counsel” is where things get interesting. Here’s what reportedly happened: > Katie Zacharia graduated from Pepperdine’s law school in 2011. She took the California bar exam, failed, and never retook it. > That first part is nothing to mock. The bar is hard. Plenty of excellent attorneys failed on their first attempt. > But graduating from law school and being authorized to practice law are separate accomplishments. > One gets you a diploma. The other gets you clients whose problems you are legally permitted to make your problems. > Zacharia went on to work in China, publicly describe herself as a lawyer, and hold the title of “general counsel” at Fix California. > When questions about her credentials surfaced, she offered an explanation: she says Pepperdine’s president told her she could call herself a “lawyer,” but not an “attorney” or “esquire.” > That is an incredible amount of responsibility to place on a synonym. > There IS a version of this distinction floating around the internet: > “Lawyer” means someone educated in law. > “Attorney” means someone licensed to practice it. > You can find people making that argument. You can find dictionary discussions about it. > The problem is that California has an actual statute. > Business and Professions Code § 6126 covers people who practice law without authorization AND people who hold themselves out as entitled to practice law. > That second part matters. > You don’t necessarily have to walk into a courtroom, file a lawsuit, or bill someone $800 an hour to create a problem. How you represent your qualifications to the public can itself matter. > And the statute doesn’t say, “Unless you remembered to use ‘lawyer’ instead of ‘attorney.’” > The question is what you are communicating about your authority to practice law. A different noun doesn’t automatically fix that. > Which brings us to “general counsel.” > That’s a particularly difficult title to square with the explanation. > When an organization introduces its general counsel, people generally understand that to mean the person responsible for its legal affairs. > Nobody thinks, “Ah yes, their designated law school graduate.” > A watchdog group has now filed a State Bar complaint. A complaint is an allegation, not a finding, and whether her specific conduct violated the law requires more than watching a clip. > But the broader lesson is pretty simple: > A J.D. is a real accomplishment. So is working internationally. Neither needs to be inflated into a license you don’t hold. All she had to say was “I graduated from law school and worked at a firm in China, BUT I'M NOT LICENSED TO PRACTICE." Why lie? Geez.

Can't think of a more clear indicator as a nation-state that certain infrastructure cannot be trusted and to look elsewhere for answers. Also not a great signal for allies that we're reliable partners.
Ukrainian officials are still seeking explanations for the US’s decision to restrict its Starlink service, with SpaceX and the White House attributing the blame to each other -Axios The Starlink sped cap reportedly rose roughly 60 km/h today, now pinned at 160 km/h (100 mi/h).

What makes this a really good answer. 1. He listens to the question and actually answers it 2. He admits fault, says he was being provocative 3. He says he'll try to be more careful in the future 4. He doesn't say his goals were wrong
Talarico questioned by a voter about the comments on God’s gender. Talarico admits he was annoying. He’s charming and makes good points. He mentions that Charlie Kirk also said God is beyond gender. No wonder he’s doing so well. A great candidate.

The bigger story is that the richest man in the world helped the Paxton campaign spread a completely made up story about his opponent and no one will face any consequences
Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico's viral hospital rumor has been debunked by time-stamped security footage reviewed by The New York Times — but the bigger story may be why his campaign sat on the evidence while the conspiracy theory exploded across social media for days. Talarico disappeared from the campaign trail for nine days in early October, fueling rampant speculation that he had secretly traveled to an Ohio behavioral health center. His campaign maintained he was home with the flu, and security camera images from his Austin home now back that up. But GOP strategists and journalists are torching the campaign's response as "mind-numbing malpractice" for not releasing the footage sooner. With Election Day just weeks away in one of the biggest Senate races in the country, the question has shifted from where Talarico was to why his team let the narrative spiral unchecked when they had the receipts the entire time. Key point: Starshield is controlled by DOD. The speed based throttling came from the DOD, not Musk, meaning that Trump almost certainly authorized this personally.
Replying to @KofmanMichael
Yes - normal Starlink has been speed-restricted since 2025, so the issue is with Starshield - indicating that this is a DoD action (not directly SpaceX). Ukrainian OWA drones (plus some interceptor drones, helicopters, and planes) have apparently been using Starshield.
