A man on a Santa Cruz beach used pizza to lure in a seagull that needed help. The seagull was entangled in fishing tackle, with a hook in its beak. The man removed parts of the line and hook before setting the bird free.
Michael Hingson was on the 78th floor of the North Tower on September 11, 2001.
He has been blind since birth.
His guide dog, Roselle, was under his desk when the plane hit.
The building lurched.
Smoke filled the offices.
People shouted.
Roselle stood, calm, and waited for the harness.
They went into Stairwell B and started down. Seventy-eight floors.
Firefighters passed them going up.
Jet fuel burned in the air.
A woman stopped, too afraid to keep walking.
Hingson talked her forward.
Roselle never pulled away, never panicked, never stopped.
They reached the lobby and then the street.
Minutes later the South Tower fell and a wall of dust rolled over them.
Roselle kept leading.
Hingson lived.
Roselle lived.
They walked out of a building that would not be standing an hour later.
He has spent the years since telling the story not as a miracle of sight, but as a story of trust: a man who could not see the stairs, and a dog who did not need to be told that the only way out was down.
Remember Michael Hingson.
Remember Roselle.
Remember everyone who started down those stairs and never reached the street.

BREAKING: Fox News host makes JD Vance SQUIRM by confronting him over Trump's insane attempt at "bribing voters" with a fake promise of $5,000 if MAGA wins the midterms.
You can practically smell his sweat through your screen...
"So, Mr. Vice President, the Trump dividend raised some eyebrows. $5,000 for every adult citizen if the House wins," Fox's Bret Baier said, sitting across from Vance after Trump's speech at the Republican convention.
"It raised my eyebrows and both hands went up at the same time," chimed in Sean Hannity, a man who reliably rushes to support all of Trump's bad ideas.
"You guys don't need it. This is for the American middle class," said Vance, plastering an awkward, fake smile on his face.
"But if the Republicans win the House, $5,000 for every adult citizen. So you do the quick math, that's about $1.3 trillion," said Baier. "I can hear the critics' heads exploding. They're saying out loud, I guarantee you, 'the President is bribing voters to vote for Republicans to take over the House.'"
Yes Bret, that IS what critics are saying because that's exactly what Trump is doing. He knows that his party is heading into a devastating wipeout in the upcoming elections thanks to his failed Iran War, worsening affordability crisis, and ongoing Epstein coverup. Since he's too incompetent or lazy to actually fix the problems that he's created, he's now resorted to direct, blunt bribery.
Unfortunately for Trump, he doesn't have the power to distribute $1.3 trillion to voters without Congressional approval.
A community note on X has already appeared on a clip of the Baier interview and it reads: "Annual tariff revenue (under $300B) cannot fund a $1.3T payout, and distributing funds requires congressional approval. Previous cash dividend promises were also never delivered, including the 2025 DOGE dividend and proposed $2,000 tariff rebates."
More important is that latter point, because most Americans realize that Trump has no intention of following through on the promise. If Republicans were to win, the $5,000 checks would become just another broken promise.
"And then he's bankrupting the country because the deficit and debt is huge. And inflation would come back if this comes into play," added Baier. "So how do you answer those criticisms?"
Reader, would it surprise you to learn that JD Vance, the most spineless, obsequious man to ever hold the vice presidency, had no real answer?
Instead, he did what he always does and spun up a deeply dishonest defense of Trump's rantings, desperately stretching to give them a sane veneer.
"Well, I'd say first of all, what the President is talking about is fundamentally a dividend for American workers," said Vance. "We're taking in an extraordinary amount of revenue because the President of the United States is actually standing up to both foreign companies, but also foreign countries who've been taking advantage of America's workers for pretty much my entire life."
The truth, of course, is that those tariffs are being paid by American workers. Tariffs are a tax on consumption. The American people do deserve a refund, but Trump can't and won't deliver it. If he really wanted to address the financial strain he's placed on working class people, he'd cut those $5,000 checks personally and use all of the money that he's raked in illegally as President.
"All of these tariffs, what is a tariff, Bret?" said Vance. "A tariff is when the President of the United States says, if you want to undercut the wages of American workers, if you want to ship American jobs overseas, you're going to pay a big fat penalty when you try to bring that stuff back into the United States of America."
"Those penalties have generated a lot of revenues. They've helped us pay down debt," lied Vance. "What the President is just saying is if you keep it going to the American people, if you keep us in power and allow us to continue to do these things, then you're going to share in some of the benefit of this incredible wealth that we're creating in the United States of America."
The "if" there reveals the crux of this idea. If Trump wants to send $5,000 to each American adult, why does he need to wait until after the midterm elections to do so? He's conditioning this offer to buy votes. It's that simple.
"I don't think it's a controversial idea. It's actually the President of the United States saying we're all working together, we're all on the same team, and if we continue to create wealth, that wealth is going to go back to the American people," added Vance. "I think it comes down to, and maybe to expand that discussion."
But the simple reality is that we are not "all on the same team." Trump and Vance are on the side of the billionaire and corporations which is why, despite claiming to support the working class, every single one of their policies is designed to siphon even more wealth to the oligarchs.
The $5,000 checks are a lie and a distraction. Focus on the real issues and vote blue!
Please ❤️ and share if you aren't falling for Trump's lies!

Trump supporter: “I don’t think it is, I think that’s a lie. That’s not what CNN says. And hell that’s the Clinton Nazi Network. I think she’s a Nazi. She colluded with Russia”
JS: “Has there been any evidence Hillary Clinton’s campaign colluded with Russia?”
TS: “As far as it coming out, arrests being made, no”
JS: “So why do you believe that?”
TS: “Cause I believe it”

Matt Walsh called temporary insanity "mythological, something out of the movies." He said it about the Lindsay Clancy case, so I responded as a psychiatrist.
Here's the thing: his core question is fair. How do you prove what was happening in someone's mind months ago? You can't run a lab test for it. But that's not how any of this works. Juries integrate evidence, and this case has evidence most cases never have. A medical record showing deterioration with every medication change. A mother and husband she told about her homicidal thoughts. An antidepressant dose doubled the day before the tragedy, on top of benzodiazepine withdrawal. And no motive. No affair, no violence, no history of anything but being a loving mother and nurse.
That's why "anyone could just claim insanity" falls apart. Without that paper trail, the defense never works.
I also pushed back on his claim that postpartum depression is largely about selfishness. I've sat with too many struggling new mothers to accept that. What I see is isolation: women raising children far from family and community, most households needing two incomes, and one in five American women now on an antidepressant. Since my first video on this case, patients have written to me saying they had frightening, intrusive thoughts in the postpartum period too and never told anyone. Those thoughts are far more common than we admit. Acting on them is extraordinarily rare. The silence around them helps no one.
Tell me where you agree and where you don't. I read the comments.

Praying for the people of Nepal.
This is insane footage of the massive mudslide at the Nepal-China border earlier today: the mudslide, originating from Nepal, seems to have basically completely obliterated the border port in Gyirong (吉隆), Shigatse City, Tibet/Xizang.
We're likely looking at one of the worst mudslides in China's history, really bad tragedy.
For having myself lived in Nepal during several months (in the middle of the devastating 2015 earthquake!), probably the place in the world where nature is the scariest.
