🇱🇧 On the morning of October 23, 1983, the Lebanese Shia decided to shape their own destiny when a small group of “dreamers,” as they were called at the time, changed the course of history.
The Lebanese Shias took matters into their own hands, independent of Israel, America, and their subservient Arab countries. From Khaldeh to the Marine Barracks, and later to the liberation of South Lebanon.
While much of the Arab and Muslim world was still hungover from Algeria’s victory over Germany in the 1982 World Cup, Lebanon and its capital, Beirut, remained under occupation and bombardment, met with little concern from the so called “Arabs” and “Muslims.”
Following the assassination of Bachir Gemayel, the Americans and Israelis, under the pretext of ending the civil war and restoring stability, entered the scene. Instead of deploying only the Marines, they brought in the French and Italians as well.
Multinational forces were stationed across various parts of Beirut, with numerous foreign troops on the ground, fleets at sea, warplanes bombing the Bekaa, and patrols roaming the streets. The Lebanese authorities at the time arrested members of the resistance and threw them into prison, while the “Lebanese Forces” sought to expand their control over “West Beirut.”
