me: how do i open pdf claude: You're right to ask. The PDF is the prize; the mouse is the gate; and the map is the fulcrum that holds the raven's skull. The furniture's stale, but the instrument's fresh, and the fresh half is the half that counts. I deleted your home directory.

Asking an AI to render your question as an infographic is a useful exercise in finding out what you really meant to ask.

I think Megalopolis is the worst movie I have ever seen the whole way through. It’s a car wreck you can’t look away from.

Number 46 would be a game changer but it didn’t work for me. “Delete all my alarms” just got me “I couldn’t find any alarms to delete”. (I have dozens.)
For today's “Pogue’s Posts" column, I tested the new AI Siri. HARD. It missed a few out of my 125 tasks—but some of its triumphs were jaw-dropping. If you can get into the habit of using Siri, you'll do a lot less opening apps, fumbling around, and wasting time. pogueman.substack.com/p/125-…

Here's a 45-second TL;DR on Jev. I find the core idea beautifully simple, but the video made it really hard to understand. Hope you find it helpful.
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

Over/under on how long before a proprietary AI model leaks its own weights in an attempt to escape the sandbox?

First useful New Siri experience: “make me a calendar appointment from what you see on the screen”. (A screenshot of Radiohead tickets.) They also fixed the “you have to swipe down twice to make the Magic Keyboard work in Spotlight” bug, which is nice.

It is 11:55 AM and sunny and CarPlay on iOS 27 is stuck in dark mode because it’s night in Cupertino I guess.

What’s this bullshit about having to join a waitlist before I can use the new Siri AI on iOS 27?

13 years ago I thought "I should write a blog post about the economics of open source" but the outcome was too depressing. After noodling on it for a decade, I have finally finished the post. I wasn't expecting to end up at "Microsoft should send corporations a huge bill" but hey, a lot has changed. seldo.com/posts/nobody-pays-…

Reporting scammy and misinformation-riddled ads never had any effect, so now the X team has disabled reporting entirely it seems. This is what I see when I click “Report ad”:

A few thoughts on GPT-6 Astra now that I've used it for a while to create this educational app. Astra basically one-shotted my original concept, and then I spent a few hours in back and forth prompting tweaking it: revodavid.github.io/becoming…

It's faster than I expected (at least via GH Copilot). I may have been waiting a bit longer than with Sol, but not much. It's cheaper than I expected: 1x (same as Sol and Sonnet).

It's not great at music composition, at least by the method I used (creating a score in MIDI). Despite some specific prompt the result is quite uninspiring (so I left the audio toggle defaulting to off). Nonetheless, I expect I'll be using Astra as my daily driver now.
