a lot of men who think astrology and tarot are silly are screaming at the TV right now, trying to make balls fly through the air with their minds

I love that Katie Dippold ended her Emmys speech by thanking the evil entity on the island for trusting them to tell its story.

My favorite thing Gloria Steinem did was publish “Trashing” in Ms., one of the only things that made me feel better after I watched the feminist organization I’d built destroyed by other feminists.

I have a few thoughts on Jacob Savage’s Compact piece: 1) I led a feminist writing organization from 2014 to 2017 that tried to get more women hired in film and TV, because the gender stats were so unbalanced, and it’s crazy to me that anyone would deny this happened.

3) The creator economy is fundamentally changing the media and publishing industries and as legacy media contracts and consolidates, there are fewer staff jobs. Although women might be better represented than they were 10 years ago, it is extremely hard to get hired right now…

…millennial women who had kids and who are trying to re-enter the media industry are just as screwed as the millennial men Jacob interviewed. Everyone’s got to become a creator now, I’m sorry :(

I boarded the D train while listening to the Chess soundtrack and encountered a group of young adults passing around a blunt and thought wow I’ve consistently been the same kind of square nerd my whole life—never lose your heart use your head nobody’s on nobody’s side

for my mystery novel I was on Reddit searching “does dried blood smell” and then realized I could just text Kat the murder queen and she would give me the answer
pictured: the moment in my headshot session where the photographer asked why I write genre fiction and I said “welllll… I just think about murder a lot”
