🗞️ Israel’s military is using an AI-powered targeting system to track and kill individuals in Lebanon, in a system that experts say cannot reliably discern between fighters and civilians, the Los Angeles Times reported this week.
The system pulls from phone metadata, facial recognition, drone surveillance, SIM card tracking, and social media, processed through platforms including Palantir’s Maven.
A senior Israeli military AI official told the Times the system generates target profiles in seconds, work that once took hundreds of analysts weeks.
Experts raised two distinct concerns:
🔹The first is false positives: the system identifies threats through behavioral patterns rather than direct evidence of combatant activity, meaning relatives, financiers, and administrators are routinely flagged because their communication patterns look similar to fighters.
🔹The second is that the system cannot reason, it only pattern-matches. If the data feeding it is flawed, it repeats the same lethal mistakes at scale, with no human stopping to question the output.

هي كانت ولا تزال حرباً بين جيش يُعتبر من اقوى جيوش العالم تسليحاً وقدرةً وتطوّراً، وبين مقاومة لا تشبه غيرها كثيراً،
وفي هكذا حرب، وبصرف النظر عن حجم الخسائر المتبادلة، يكون هدف جيش العدو هو الإنتصار، ويكون هدف المقاومة هو الصمود،
وبالتالي،
ومع وقف النار أمس، والذي هو أكثر جدّية من إتفاق ٢٧ ت٢، ٢٠٢٤ الذي لم تلتزم به إسرائيل مطلقاً، بات واضحاً أنّ إسرائيل لم تنتصر كما تريد، وهو ما سبّب غضب الشعب هناك، وأنّ المقاومة في لبنان صمدت ولم تستسلم، فكان ابتهاج مناصريها، رغم الطريقة الخاطئة للبعض في التعبير عن هذا الإبتهاج…
ماذ بعد؟!
المقاومة في لبنان، مهما صمدت ومهما نجحت في الدفاع امام إسرائيل، فلا هي ولا بيئتها تستطيع إستثمار هذا النجاح، لأنه ليس لديها مشروع سياسي خاص ولا طموحات سلطوية لحكم البلد، بل المقاومة نتجت أصلاً عن وضع تراكمي من اهمال الدولة في الدفاع عن الجنوب إلى تكرار الإعتداءات والإحتلالات الاسرائيلية هناك، وحيث صادف تاريخياً أن معظم سكانه من الشيعة، ولو كان معظمهم من غير الشيعة لكانوا هم المقاومة…
اذن طالما المقاومة ليست هي المستثمرة لذاك الصمود في لبنان ولا يجوز أن تكون،
فمن يتوجب عليه وطنياً وسياسياً وسيادياً أن يستثمره ليترجمه إلى مكاسب للبلد، وعلى رأسها الإنسحاب الإسرائيلي الكامل حتى الحدود الدولية؟!
الجواب الوحيد وبكلمة واحدة، هو أنّ الدولة اللبنانية هي طبيعياً وعملياً، ويجب ان تكون، المستثمر الوحيد لهذا الصمود في أي مفاوضات قادمة شرط ان تكون بالمستوى الذي يليق بالتضحيات التي أدت إلى هذا الصمود…
ولا أخفي هنا انني منذ تعيين الرئيس عون بالإنتخاب وتعيين الرئيس سلام بعده، فقد كنتُ معارضاً ومنتقداً إلى الحد الأقصى لمسلسل الضعف والتنازلات المجانية الذي أظهرته حكومتنا، منذ محاولتها توريط الجيش بالصدام مع المقاومة وصولاً إلى قرار ٢ آذار بنزع الشرعية عنها، بما بدأ وكأنّ المقاومة تواجه إسرائيل من الأمام بينما الدولة تطعنها من الخلف…
اليوم، ومع وقف النار الذي أسهمت به إيران والسعودية وباكستان، ومع الصمود الواضح للمقاومة، بالإضافة للتطورات الإقليمية حولنا، إنفتحت فرصة إستثنائية للدولة والحكومة اللبنانية لتكون لديها خطة تفاوضية واضحة ومتكاملة، بعدما أصبح لديها أوراق قوة جديدة داخلية وخارجية لتكون بموقعٍ أقوى في أي مفاوضات مع إسرائيل وغيرها، وللخروج من مسلسل التنازلات السابقة التي أوشكت أن تضع البلد في زاوية الإستسلام والفتنة…
المطلوب من الدولة أن تتصرف كدولة، أي أن تستثمر تلك التضحيات لمصلحة لبنان لا أن تهدرها خوفاً من هذا الخارج او تورُّطاً مع ذاك، كما بدر منها حتى الأمس القريب،
وحينها، سيكون كل اللبنانيين معها إلى آخر الحدود…

Essentially they confirm, with unimpeachable sourcing, that the killing of civilians was all calculated and intentional.
Their investigation is "based on conversations with seven current and former members of Israel’s intelligence community — including military intelligence and air force personnel who were involved in Israeli operations in the besieged Strip — in addition to Palestinian testimonies, data, and documentation from the Gaza Strip, and official statements by the IDF Spokesperson and other Israeli state institutions."
What the investigation reveals is that "the Israeli army has files on the vast majority of potential targets in Gaza — including homes — which stipulate the number of civilians who are likely to be killed in an attack on a particular target. This number is calculated and known in advance to the army’s intelligence units, who also know shortly before carrying out an attack roughly how many civilians are certain to be killed."
One source told them: "Nothing happens by accident. When a 3-year-old girl is killed in a home in Gaza, it’s because someone in the army decided it wasn’t a big deal for her to be killed — that it was a price worth paying in order to hit [another] target. We are not Hamas. These are not random rockets. Everything is intentional. We know exactly how much collateral damage there is in every home."
Even more dystopian - and this might be a first in the history of warfare - a lot of the targets are identified by AI: for instance they "use of a system called 'Habsora' ('The Gospel'), which is largely built on artificial intelligence and can 'generate' targets almost automatically at a rate that far exceeds what was previously possible. This AI system, as described by a former intelligence officer, essentially facilitates a 'mass assassination factory.' According to the sources, the increasing use of AI-based systems like Habsora allows the army to carry out strikes on residential homes where a single Hamas member lives on a massive scale, even those who are junior Hamas operatives."
I'm not going to copy the whole article here, you have to read this for yourself. IT IS INSANE. They've essentially been running, as the sources say, a "mass assassination factory" at a terrifying scale with massive and intended "collateral damage" (often the targets' entire families, or even sometimes much of their neighborhood), alongside an objective to destroy much of Gaza to “create a shock”, all on a population that had nowhere to escape. It'll likely remain in history books as one of the most depraved massacres in modern history.

Haaretz has published a Hebrew-only attack on my investigation into Israeli friendly fire deaths on October 7. It calls my article the "cornerstone of the massacre denial conspiracy" and predictably accuses me of "'journalism' worthy of Der Sturmer."
Haaretz proceeds to accuse me of "manipulation" by quoting a wide variety of Israeli media sources detailing how Israeli forces fired on Israeli noncombatants on 10/7, often with orders from the top, but does not explain how these quotes were incorrect. In fact, it does not accuse of a single factual error.
It even references the Israeli police investigation (reported by Haaretz) acknowledging that helicopter pilots killed Israelis at or near the Nova music festival. And it concedes that an Israeli tank killed 12 Israelis in just one home in Kibbutz Be'eri.
Where I went wrong, according to the liberal paper, is by refusing to dismiss the preponderance of friendly fire incidents as a scattershot of isolated killings that were absolutely unrepresentative of the Israeli military's conduct on October 7. Further, I dared to describe the Hamas/PIJ attack as an military operation with clearly articulated political goals, and not as an orgiastic outburst of Islamo-Nazi savagery aimed exclusively at cannibalizing Jews.
So what can we deduce from the central organ of Israel's "enlightened society" running such a breathless attempt at undermining my reporting (and that of many others in alternative media) about October 7?
First, the Israeli information war is failing. While the initial phase of its shock-and-awe propaganda campaign manipulated CNN and Joe Biden into publicizing lurid lies about piles of dead babies beheaded by Hamas, thus guaranteeing the political space it needed to launch its genocidal blitzkreig on Gaza, it is running out of steam on the international stage and is increasingly focused on holding the line domestically.
Second, critical reporting by independent media on October 7 has broken through across the world, and now threatens Israel's propaganda campaign in its Hebrew language stronghold, particularly within Israel's metropolitan anti-Netanyahu sector. If enough Israelis publicly question the official narrative of the day that has been marketed to them as their 9/11, Pearl Harbor, and the second coming of the Shoah, and then clamor for an independent investigation which probes friendly fire killings, public morale will begin to collapse.
The antiwar leftists I know inside Israel have told me they are keeping a low profile and constantly looking over their shoulders. They describe the country as a dictatorial police state that no longer needs its democratic mask to maintain legitimacy. But the most paranoid elements in Israeli society seem to be in leadership positions – in the Defense Ministry, the Shin Bet, and PM's office. Even slight cracks in their shoddily constructed narrative about 10/7 could soon lead to a political dam burst.
