Cool to hear from a young founder crushing the game in real time. Instinct is an awesome product. Literally going up against arguably the most ruthless competition out there.
Travel making up 50% of the use of Instinct makes sense for sure. Everything else people do not want to purchase themselves will move to this medium. Including insurance. Let’s build the insurance rails @noahrshinn
I’m addicted to sugar and wanted to understand why high-fructose corn syrup became so prevalent in the US. A few fun facts:
HFCS started with American research in the 1950s and the Japanese commercialized it. America had abundant corn, government support for corn farmers, and tariffs and other protections that made sugar expensive.
Those policies helped build an industry around cheaper sweetness. Win for corn farmers (and politicians across party lines), win for CPG (lower costs, higher margins), and cheaper pop for consumers—win!
HFCS was historically less prevalent in the EU partly because production was capped until 2017 and Europe already had a large domestic sugar industry
The FDA hasn’t found an established risk/safety difference between HFCS and comparable amounts of cane sugar. But the omitted variable, IMO, is price. Cheaper sugary products make it easier to drink and easier to get "addicted" too.
And cutting back is hard. The @listendotco team bought a cookie lockbox for me in the office a few years ago 🤦🏽♂️ 🍪

Listen. I rarely make calls to follow me. But I will use this account to share news and action items on working to create a regulated cannabis market.
This is not about just hemp. This is about federally legalizing access to safe, tested, natural cannabis products. Maybe it will start with an altered definition of hemp but I intend to advance ALL cannabis legalization.
My goals in this next year will be to work with Congress to create a federal regulated system for naturally derived cannabinoids. If possible, this will include descheduling all cannabis.
Follow me and tell others to do so if you are ready for the biggest moment that cannabis will have in Congress since the Controlled Substances Act passed.
