After Elon Musk posted on X saying he had throttled Ukraine’s use of Starlink after it was used for offensive attacks, House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says the billionaire’s ability to wield that power is “beyond disturbing to me.” “It cannot and should not be the case that a tech oligarch, a private citizen, who has that much control over our national security, who is unaccountable, who is unelected, with zero transparency, is making life and death decisions on the battlefield in systems that our service members and our partners and allies rely upon,” he adds.

US energy company execs have resigned in disgust as the Trump family is caught secretly expediting the funneling of $25 billion from a sanctioned Russian energy giant in exchange for allowing Russians to obtain a natural gas project in Alaska. According to investigations by The New York Times and Financial Times, Russia's Novatek allegedly concealed its financial involvement in the American project through a UAE-linked intermediary. Gentry Beach, a longtime Trump ally and close friend of Donald Trump Jr., signed an agreement with Novatek to pursue natural gas development in Alaska. Reuters documented the arrangement in February. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin discussed this cooperation on the Alaska energy project with Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine. The controversy deepened when Polar Train LNG's CEO, Joel Riddle, raised concerns about concealed Russian financing and possible sanctions violations. He departed in September, followed by other senior executives. The Financial Times also described discussions about a potential arrangement under which Novatek would provide technology for the Alaska project in exchange for sanctions relief benefiting its Arctic LNG 2 development in Siberia. According to The New York Times, Riddle and two other departing executives warned the Trump administration about the Russian financing and urged officials to investigate. The White House maintains that the project was mentioned only briefly and that no detailed discussions took place. There is no established evidence that Kushner or Witkoff knew about the allegedly concealed financing. Polar Train LNG denies wrongdoing. The central question is how a sanctioned Russian energy company became involved in a major American energy venture while Putin was discussing potential economic cooperation with Trump's representatives and a longtime Trump family associate was pursuing a separate agreement with the same Russian company. Selling Alaska to the Russians or selling Ukraine to the Russians - to the Trump family it's all the same. ft.com/content/e9cfbfbb-e65a…

"I want to be a senator for every Texan who can't afford one." Hell of a line from @jamestalarico in the rally clip below, commenting on the mind-blowing sum of special interest money being spent on behalf of Ken Paxton, led Elon's more than $150 million.
Talarico: This election is a battle between the powers that be and the powers that ought to be. The powers that be have chosen their candidate. They have bought and paid for Ken Paxton.  But we are standing with the powers that ought to be the teachers and the nurses, the farmers and the ranchers. The grandmother who is facing eviction, the little boy who's waking up in the middle of the night from the lights of the data center, the small business owner, who is struggling to keep his family restaurant open. Those Texans are my team.  They are why I'm in this race. I want to be a senator for every Texan who can't afford one. You want to know why they are spending $200 million against me? Because I don't take their money, and I never will. I don't work for them. I work for you

No, @elonmusk, the U.S. stopped funding Ukraine last year. In fact, U.S. companies make money on American weapons for which we Europeans pay. The more you meddle in our politics and the more you play politics with your products, the more you damage your brand.
Replying to @elonmusk
And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

63% of Americans stand with Ukraine. 3% stand with Russia. Most Americans have moral clarity. The President needs to find his.

However, let's recognize @elonmusk's bravery. Meddling in Europen politics and attacking the EU itself when you want regulatory privileges and frequency permissions is a bold business strategy.
More reporting suggesting that Musk does indeed have his finger on Starshield's operability. Quite a lot of power for a ketamine-addicted trillionaire in bed with hostile foreign regimes. You might even say this endangers U.S. national security. wsj.com/world/trump-called-m…

I’m starting to believe that Putin and Trump’s friends have started to rush their plotting in regards to Ukraine not only because of the midterms, but because they seriously fear that Trump is falling apart. This is some serious mental lapse. And it is one of increasingly many.

There’s a reason why I’ve become so opposed to our election process as it currently stands. It’s more than our ugly tone. It’s more than our disrespect of each other. All the tools of electioneering are now being used to mislead rather than enlighten. They are being used to destroy rather than to build. The best example of this is the Ohio gubernatorial ad — I believe it will have an impact. In fact, I’m sure of it. But it’s a horrible example of how low we have sunk. When people ask me to analyze an ad, they’re not asking for my opinion. They’re asking me for the impact it will have on voters. And that’s exactly what I try to give them. This is different. This is my opinion. I think this ad will be taught in schools for decades about just how toxic our politics have turned. I’m sad for what my country has become.

The oil prices only know one way and this is up. They have climbed continuously in October. Trump’s announcement regarding the minuscule Russian promise has not even dented that, predictably. The Strait of Hormuz is severely disrupted and the Iranian regime plays Trump like a fiddle. Expect Thanksgiving and Christmas to be an expensive period.

What if Presidents coddle our adversaries, injure our allies, and risk US global interests while pursuing electoral victory? Desperate about the midterm elections, Trump has allowed Iran to start rebuilding its defenses, re-legitimized Putin, and dismayed NATO. Do we really believe things will change on November 4? wsj.com/opinion/the-midterm-…

Was there a moment in 2025 when you realized, damn, this guy’s not up for this job? Meaning Hegseth. It probably took him into the June-July time frame when my concerns, when the concerns about his ability just not to manage a large organization became pretty well-known. Should Trump fire him now? Yeah. Just to give you an idea of how inadequate this guy is: In the midst of an election cycle where anybody with a brain should know we only win if we get enough undecided, unaffiliated voters voting our way — you decide that you want a public execution of a guy in a wheelchair? You know politics well. Is that a real winner for the undecideds going into November? I’m gonna go with no. I’m gonna go with no, too. And that’s another example of how he’s incompetent on every level.

My parents paid $16,000 for the house I grew up in. It’s now worth $783,000 on Zillow. Sounds like they made a fortune, right? In gold terms, that house cost 450 ounces in 1962. At today’s gold price, it’s worth 250 ounces. The house actually lost value. Politicians get away with robbing working class people blind because most people don’t realize their nominal gains aren’t real gains. They think they’re inflation-adjusted rich, but they’re not.

The Trump admin is in a typical autocrat's trap. Even when things have gone very wrong, they can never admit error or say that they are not in total control. But if they are all powerful, I never make mistakes, why aren’t things going well? Predecessors and enemies, of course! Foreign, domestic opposition, etc. But this soon wears thin, and the longer you’re in power, the less credible it is that someone else is responsible. So, in order to keep power, they turn to outrages, creating more enemies, repression, and election interference.
