imagine being yuna, reading about ilya's sex scandals and hockey fights and seeing this scared boy in your living room
bisexual terminator and canada's golden boy being reduced to nervous teenagers when being confronted by shane's parents is so hilarious actually like look at them all shy and cute

TO ME Shane and Troy’s dynamic is similar to Sokka and Zuko having that one convo where Sokka is like “my gf turned into the moon” and zuko is like “that’s rough buddy” and Shane/troy could be either one at any given moment

People Magazine has named 'HEATED RIVALRY' the "Sexiest Show" of 2026. (It technically released in 2025 but who's counting?) 🔗: people.com/the-year-in-sexy-…

kinda crazy that the show/books where two pro athletes fall deeply in love and have to overcome the sensationalized rivalry prescribed to them has a fanbase that’s hell bent on pitting those two against each other, almost like in some sort of rivalry…

Full offense bc this is not that hard to understand. TLG is centered around the romance trope of “choosing your partner over your passion," and then turning the trope on its head by concluding that actually, you can have both. Shane and Ilya have inverted arcs to get there. +

yuna is a bad mom. ilya is probably a racist but we should still feel bad for him. troy calls shane racist slurs to his face. ilya is abusive. shane should stay closeted. like why are you even writing about these characters when you hate every single one of them i'm crying

like flowers growing out of a crack in the pavement
“i could’ve died. the reporter could’ve died” is the most united hrtwt has been since the “shane: okay so-” meme

perfectly said & honestly I think a lot of people who struggle to understand TLG are missing that this is the fundamental structure of the story.

Yeah once I realized that it all clicked Heated Rivalry: Shane has to accept something about himself, Ilya has to leave something behind The Long Game: Ilya has to accept something about himself, Shane has to leave something behind

The way I view it is this: in heated rivalry, the main pressures affecting Ilya are external and Shane’s are internal. In The Long Game, that’s flipped.
