New Anthropic research: How AI agents shape experts' judgment calls
When experts delegate work to an agent, do they still make the key decisions? We tested this in a randomized trial with 50 professional data analysts.

The most ambitious vision for interpretability has long been to reverse-engineer a model well enough to answer an arbitrary question about how it works.
For years, that’s seemed out of reach. Now, we think it’s possible. Neural networks are cleaner than we thought: we can now understand most neurons in models up to trillions of parameters. And agents can rapidly accelerate our progress.
But to get there, we need a concerted effort to unlock scaling laws for interpretability, where our understanding of a model grows predictably with compute.
That’s why we’re committing $10M to start a Human Genome Project for AI. Our ultimate goal is to reverse-engineer a frontier scale model and publish a living encyclopedia explaining how it works.
We don’t know exactly what we’ll find, and we can’t do it alone. We hope you’ll join us. Our chief scientist @banburismus_ lays out the vision here:
if any science should be revolutionised by AI, it should be interpretability. I wrote about how we can accelerate progress, and why we need a Human Genome Project for AI. coauthored with @mathildepapillo

Step into Vera Molnar’s Paris studio this weekend. @lerandomart just released a new fully playable software on their Living Timeline. You can actually run her programs on an IBM System/370 and watch the Benson plotter draw in real time. Super!

We made a new playable Timeline moment based on Molnar’s years at CIRCE Orsay Computing Centre

We used to buy things made one at a time.
Mass production made products cheaper and more accessible, but largely identical.
What if the future takes us back to a world where everything is one-of-one?

Frank Dietrich in 1982: "We kept working with machines which became smaller and smaller—and at the same time, more powerful. And that is, somehow, the reward..."

We’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent.
It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.

We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

I picked up Tega Brain and Golan Levin’s /Code as Creative Medium/ again this morning and was blown away all over again! What an essential and valuable resource for anyone teaching or studying computational art. I wish I’d had this book when I was starting out!
