My first official OpenAI Blog post. Reasonably detailed on the technical front. Hope you find it interesting.
Learned of this cognitive bias called Automation Complacency - experiencing daily now during heavily AI-assisted moments - self-driving, AI coding, etc. Reliance on AI is so high that even though I should pay attention to the road (or code), it's just hard! *Almost* perfect is dangerous territory.
Looks like ahphysics.org is available on GoDaddy. Just saying.
This was parody from the TV show Silicon Valley, for entertainment. Didn't expect this to show up in real life from really smart people. Or perhaps this is the Halo Effect -- the cognitive bias where a positive impression of a person in one area (Math) makes us think they must be very good at another (dealing with change).
A state wise breakdown that I love. A rare map where California is a red state. @venturetwins and folks are from @a16z, my favorite podcast of late. They have a great episode on top consumer AI apps worth listening to.
This is almost exactly how a company of 200K people and 10+ layers of management works. I remember early days of Google, Larry was CEO, 30K employees, he said his top of mind was how big the company should be. How about 100K, he wondered. So the ambition was led by company size, not by project portfolio. A few years later, his famous email landed: "More Wood Behind Fewer Arrows please", he wrote.
Every product company makes it 10X harder to cancel service than to upgrade plan. Classic 'customer obsessed' behavior, optimizing for friction on the way to canceling. Should be sponsored by Google, because of all the highly monetizable "how do I cancel Y" queries. #hardtoquit
Yesterday, one of my reports at openai told me I am the best manager they have ever had. I was thrilled! What a way to end the week!
This report is a new college grad.
Building software using AI means we can build better & faster not just coz we can iterate faster, but also coz much less ego tied to our build, a relic from the days of painstakingly writing code by hand. It's called the IKEA effect. Build -> Feedback -> Digest -> Improve.
For many years, I used computers the same way. Until I started using voice combined with computer use. That changed everything. The use of keyboards is a special case.
I’m excited to announce my partnership with OpenAI. We have some interesting things coming up, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
I’ve always been curious... One question usually leads to another, and ChatGPT has certainly encouraged that habit. But it has also proved useful when I’ve needed to get things done, like planning my last trip with the family.
That’s what I’m looking forward to with this partnership. Discovering what else I can do with ChatGPT, sharing what I find useful, and encouraging more people to give it a try with something they care about.
A question, an idea, something you’ve always wanted to explore. There are so many places to start.
Looking forward to exploring together.

GPT-6 Astra is crushing it on benchmarks, but the release video is even more inspiring to me. Quite a privilege to be working here at a time like this. Ambition is one thing, executing at this pace against that ambition is another. Partly because it's not a very large company.

Browsing and skipping short vertical videos on a mobile phone might just be the modern day equivalent of TV channel surfing on a remote.
Is it just me, or do you also start to remember the number of unread emails in your inbox and mentally compare against that to detect new email? e.g. my gmail has 2347 unread emails, and that's been the steady state recently. When it hits 2348, I've got mail. Is this weird?
Eating while wearing VR glassed an immersed in a different world is a kind of cognitive dissonance I haven't experienced before. Have you tried?
