#tweeprint! Have you ever wanted to learn about spatial and non-spatial hippocampal function, especially in primates? We look at single neurons + ensemble activity across tasks during virtual navigation in a new paper with @JulioMTneuro in @NatureNeuro nature.com/articles/s41593-0… 1/

"In neuroscience, we have monkeys to thank for deep brain stimulation therapy . . . [and] brain computer interfaces . . . Virtually everything we know about the human visual system . . . has its roots in foundational science involving monkeys." jneurosci.org/content/44/37/…

You might notice that the theta band defined here (7-9+ Hz) is higher in frequency than what rodent electrophysiologists call "theta" (~3-8 Hz). The cross-species difference in naming can be traced to Stewart and Fox, 1991, Brain Research.

This paper is focussed on description of power and phase changes around fixation onset in humans and monkeys. All of the results are related to analysis of the local field potentials. Implications on single-neuron activity were also discussed...
