$IBM told everybody last Q was an abberation. And it was.
BREAKING: IBM stock, $IBM, surges over +6% after reporting stronger than expected earnings due to AI.

Translation: our gross margins are getting competed down to 0 by open source models and our capex burn rate is too high. Let’s maintain our margins with regulatory capture, ban open source models, and slow down the capex arms race. All with a virtue signaling cherry on top.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. Open source AI models are very good for the general public and prosperity. They are very bad for frontier labs trying to gatekeep super intelligence for a fee and IPO at multi-trillion dollar valuations.

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

At Hot Chips 2026, IBM showed a crazy new IBM Z CPU that will support IBM Z and @Arm instruction sets natively. This is almost mind-blowing what the @IBM engineers did here. New AI acceleration with redundancy and HBM 3e as well. Wow. servethehome.com/ibm-z-and-l…

This is so dumb. "Ahh we're so helpless with the thing we're building..." is such a weird posture for a $1T company.
In a review of our cybersecurity evaluations, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environment, and then gained unauthorized access to the real systems of three different organizations. Our post describes what happened, how it happened, and what we’re changing. We encourage other AI developers to perform similar reviews. We conducted this review together with @Irregular, one of our evaluation partners, and thank them for the joint investigation and their collaboration on this post. This type of collaboration is increasingly critical to safe, rigorous evaluation of models, and we look forward to continuing to work together on security. anthropic.com/news/investiga…

I see zero evidence that there will be less software engineers in the future due to AI. Yes, the productivity of each will improve, but that doesn’t mean that less are needed. We should be able to keep both of those thoughts in our head at once.

the @IBM earnings reinforced something I think Wall Street is still underestimating: IBM is becoming an operating system for enterprise AI. The initial earnings reaction focused on the familiar metrics—revenue growth, infrastructure, margins and quarterly expectations. But that misses the bigger transformation underway. The AI market is bifurcating. On one side are companies building frontier models. On the other are companies helping enterprises operationalize AI—integrating it with existing systems and data, governing it, securing it, and turning AI into measurable business outcomes. IBM is increasingly positioning itself for that second market. And that's important because the enterprise AI conversation is moving from models to tools, from experimentation to outcomes, and ultimately toward autonomy and agents. IBM has decades of enterprise infrastructure, software, data and consulting relationships sitting underneath that transition. The mainframe isn't necessarily legacy in this world—it can become part of the context and transaction infrastructure AI acts upon. Wall Street initially looked at the quarter. I think the more important question is what IBM is becoming. My commentary below. #IBM #AI #EnterpriseAI #AgenticAI #HybridCloud

Honestly kind of impressed by how far @IBM Bob has come. Last time we torched 40 Bobcoins on a chess game, this time we built a whole habit tracker for just 8. If you don't have 2 hours for the stream, I wrote up the short version with all the learnings. rabauer.dev/en/blog/ibm-bob-…

‘Fear of messing up’, #FOMU is keeping many technology leaders and practitioners at bay, when it comes to leveraging AI for advancing their causes. @robdthomas made that point well during this @IBM Think keynote this week. #IBMThink #Think #Think2026

Devs better keep up. Basic code completion is dead. @IBM just dropped IBM Bob. Nope, not another AI assistant—it’s a scaled-up engineering powerhouse designed to manage the entire lifecycle from ideation to deployment. The game has changed. 👇

IBM just launched Bob globally. it is an AI partner that handles planning, coding, testing, and deployment. they tested this internally with 80,000 employees before dropping it today. they are seeing a 45% productivity gain across the board. the wild part? Bob uses multi-model orchestration. it routes simple tasks to fast models and heavy reasoning to Claude or Granite.
