So, this Mastodon thing. I'm @rogerlipscombe@hachyderm.io; let's see how that works out.
Slowly weaning myself off this thing. I've just unfollowed a bunch of accounts that are either on the fediverse or that weren't adding value to my feed.

No platform is required to let one user pollute the experience of other users. This is what moderation is about, not whether particular ideas are shareable or not.

Now I say the opposite. The happy path, you hit all the time. Test the paths that you don’t see every day.”

One of the wildest features of the crypto wipeout is that all of these "multi-billion-dollar" firms never bothered with an independent audit, and they all turned out to be lying about their balance sheets. 1/

Meanwhile, a human can perform the same thing after a few hours (or dozens of hours) of familiarization with a game -- *any* game, including games that have yet to be invented.
And could adapt instantly to a simple rule change.
That's what general intelligence is.

To have more fun in the workplace:
Step 0: Stop prohibiting fun.
Step 1: Look for un-fun things. Get rid of them.
Usually when things aren’t fun, it’s because they aren’t useful.
Usually we’ve been told what to do by someone outside this context.

Gamification is a powerful force.
It will even drive people to do the WRONG thing.
Leave room for play: no purpose, no rules. Yet fortuitous results.

Gamification is superficial - let’s talk about game design, and use that in our teams.
Departing for YOW! London now, to speak on Tuesday

people building tech products so often miss the point
the point is to help people live a good life, not an efficient life
the point is resonance, not scale
the point is to deliver comfort, not just convenience
the goal is not technology - the goal is human flourishing
. @tfl please sort out the data feed for the 218 bus. For the last several weeks, it's been completely unreliable. Right now I'm sitting on a bus that doesn't exist, according to the app.

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?"
As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
If your SRE team know what they're doing, they'll have picked all the low-hanging fruit already. Services will auto-restart, certificates will auto-renew, logs will rotate. 1/
But because they have dealt with all that, any problem that occurs now will be unforseen, and will need deep understanding of the system to fix it. 3/

One common complaint people make about keeping Git history honest is that they don't like turning the history into Guitar Hero.
My own blog's git history (github.com/ploeh/ploeh.githu…) looks like this, and I honestly don't see what the problem is 🤷
