many people on this website would find a way to call it totalitarian communism if the idea of the driver’s license was invented today

In Australia, we call em 5-baggers
It’s not finding the 10 bags. It’s holding the 10 bags… Actually it’s both. But the latter is infinitely more difficult

OK - book recommendation time! Years ago, I crowdsourced a list of "50 books to understand everything in the universe" - goal was to understand why are we the way we are and why have our social, political and biological systems evolved into what they are today. I then divided the books into (1) Core: the principles of how this world works at an elemental level (2) Mind: how become a strategist, develop foresight, patience, and smarter intellectual habits (3) Torso: matters of charisma, influence, and power (4) Legs: operational experience, stories of building empires, of failures, and discipline and (5) Soul: stories of struggles and wins against exceptional odds. Of the 100+ recommendations, final 50 are on the google doc below. The world has changed significantly since: AI, geopolitics, birth-rates, covid & other black swans have all surprised us. I would love to crowdsource a new list again for 2025 and opensource it again for others. These books also are a GREAT gift -- I bought ALL of the 50 books in the list in India for <600$, lower than the price of an iPhone!

My uncle is a sculptor. He is insanely gifted and can work with any material. We saw Michaelengelo’s David in Florence years ago and I asked him what it would cost to recreate such a lifelike statue. I will never forget his answer… “We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”

If power is your only god, you can never retire. If you retire, you lose not just your job, but your identity. This is true for politicians, CEOs and pastors.

1.4 million iPhones were sold in the first year. Today, it’s roughly 1.4 million every 2 days. But early on, there were lots of skeptics… 🧵

4. Memory Dividends It's important to stack fun experiences when you're young vs wait until you're old. Why? The memory pays dividends for the rest of your life. Memory Dividend is a great counterbalance measurement to have alongside work ethic. Via @bp22

Microsoft is such a behemoth. So many notable brands: - Cloud biz/Azure at nearly a $90 billion run-rate - Office 365 (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc) - GitHub Copilot popping off - Bing starting to get traction - OpenAI partnership - Windows - LinkedIn - Teams - Xbox
