In today’s news…
Delighted to share that I will be joining the crew at @CNN in their London bureau from next month.
A huge thank you to everyone at both the @IrishTimes and @JOEdotie for affording me the chance to kickstart my career in journalism, and hopefully we’ll have the chance to work together again soon.
Can’t wait to get started and see where this opportunity leads! – at Dublin City, Ireland
I belong to the Terminal 1 class in Ireland, most flights are Ryanair, and I really don't think they get the credit they deserve. Easy to mock the no frills model, but this is an Irish company that has revolutionised how we live, and should be celebrated.
My favourite genre of ‘journalism’ is the one where British outlets publish op-eds telling Irish people how they should feel

Curtis Sliwa just reminded British royalty of their history. 'Your king and queen laid flowers at the 9/11 memorial
But a block away is the memorial to the Irish famine. Your royalty was responsible for killing a million Irish. You never apologized. They have a lot to apologize for

Mr. Prime Minister, I would suggest that you read the Good Friday Agreement.
This is a question for the people, and for the people only. Both sides agreed to the terms of the peace accord, including the principle that the right to self-determination should not be left to one person. That agreement has been honored and has helped maintain peace on the island of Ireland for 28 years.
As a guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement, the United States has a critical role to play in ensuring that the people of Ireland have the right to control their own destiny.
Border poll on united Ireland ‘off the table’, says Burnham on first visit as prime minister to North irishtimes.com/ireland/2026/…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The United States is not a legal guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement; the text designates only the British and Irish governments as such. Additionally, the power to call a border poll rests with the UK Secretary of State, not the people as a whole. ukconstitutionallaw.org/2020/09/16/lis… ireland.ie/en/dfa/role-po…

This is not Andy Burnham's call to make. No British Prime Minister has any right to rule out a unity referendum.
The Good Friday Agreement is clear: the people of the island of Ireland alone must determine their own future.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ruled out calling a referendum on Irish unification, describing a border poll as "off the table".
He was speaking during his first official visit to Northern Ireland as prime minister.

Andy Burnham should know better.
A border poll is mandated in the Good Friday Agreement. This is both a multi-party agreement, endorsed by referenda *and* an international treaty lodged at the UN.

Colombia’s earthquake is one of the strongest to hit the war-torn country in the past decade, with western and central-western departments the hardest hit.
There are millions of internally displaced Colombians and Venezuelans in the country - this earthquake adds to deep humanitarian needs.
NRC teams are assessing the impact and coordinating with others to respond quickly. Humanitarian priorities will focus on securing safe temporary shelter, as well as water and sanitation for those who have lost their homes.
Schooling has been suspended for thousands of children, and it will be critical to ensure they can receive both educational and emotional support.

I think if you didn’t enjoy that final it’s fine - not everyone has to like everything. But football has always looked a bit like that. It can be gruelling. And it’s ok to just prefer more instant things, like children’s cartoons or slop on your phone, no need for judgement
